This evokes such wonderful memories.  My family lived a couple hundred miles from us when the children were growing up.  Often we would go for a few days during the season and spend time, leaving their dad behind.  To prevent the Popeye game, I would encourage the children to sing and this was their favorite/

I've always loved the Huron Carol. It is sung in the native language of the tribe ,and also in English, and French.

My very favorite is Tu Scendi Dalle Stella...I think it translates to “you come down from the stars”

i went to an Italian Catholic school and learned this song in first grade.  I was so proud and came home and sang  it for my father who was Italian.

He was very happy to hear it, though i am sure my Italian pronouncation was way off.

Over the years, I sang this song at midnight Mass every Christmas.  I am no longer part of the church choir, but everytime I hear this song, I tear up.  It is a beautiful song, but the memories it stirs up are what moves me.

O Holy Night ...

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.  We're having an Advent service at my parish:  Lessons and Carols.

All our Church choirs will be participating.

Mary, did you know.... fave carol

Also not a fan of secular holiday music. Must have been all my years in seasonal retail hail when I was raising kids. I'd work at Kohls, Dress Barn or Macy's to pay for gifts while working full time. We had our children plus a foster child. It helped.

I have always loved the Cherry Tree Carol. I think it's origins are southern, but I am not sure.  We don't seem to hear a lot from Joan Baez but I have always enjoyed her

Re: Do you have a favorite carol?

I love Christmas music.  However if pressed to name favorites I can listen to any version of O Holy Night. That is one of my favorite songs of any genre. There are many wonderful renditions of it too.  Among my favorites are renditions by: John Denver; Jose Carreras; Leontyne Price; '50's doo-wop group, The Orioles; and Reba McEntire.

In contemporary pop music to me it doesn't get any better than Dony Hathaway singing This Christmas.  Mariah Carey's version of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) is the the lead off hitter on my current holiday playlist  and Michael Buble's Christmas album is in regular rotation for me.  I love his Jingle Bells.  It's performed in the jazzy style of Bing Crosby with The Andrews Sisters.
