Do you have a HOARDING problem?

My hoarding is getting out of control - - AGAIN.

YARN, Crochet hooks, Looms, Face masks, Skin Care, Serums, hair products ...

During COVID, I threw away all my Skin Care.  Fine.

It's done and I'm NOT going back.

BUT,

... About 6 years ago, I threw away all my hair care products.

Now, I've noticed, (at some point) I started up with the HAIR stuff again.

Suddenly, I have 5 different shampoos and 14+ conditioners.

I'm baffled ... WHEN did I STOP using these conditioners?  Why?

I KNOW, for the past year, I've only used TWO of the shampoos.

Does anyone else do this?

I have my own personal rule of  'one in, one out' . In other words, if I buy something new then I have to get rid of something old. This takes a little planning but it is straight forward and it doesn't require a lot of thought.

I'm not a hoarder, I just have TOO much stuff!  I've lived in the same house for 42 years, and stuff accumulates.  I've worked on decluttering, but I have a long ways to go.

Yes, but I identified my triggers & try to avoid them.

I also  purge regularly, most of what I purge is donated

Re: Do you have a HOARDING problem?

I never did the thing with shoes, bags, clothes, cosmetics, etc.   But I might hoard a bit with food.  Not to the extent that I have food that's not good anymore.  But I have two refrigerator freezers and one small chest freezer.

I seem to struggle to actually get any of the freezers very cleaned out.  Right now they are all full.   Sometimes I give myself a bit of anxiety about that but I know that my anxiety would be worse if I didn't have food, from growing up poor.  I eat so little now that I need to figure out a way to keep how much I need, plus just a little more.

I'm more of a purger. Too much stuff feels like chaos. That's good you recognize it though.

Re: Do you have a HOARDING problem?

Yes. And, no.

I am a lot more disciplined than I used to be, so I am very careful about buying "stuff" if it's not something that I really want/need. Or if it seasonal & I will have to store it somewhere.

We lost both of our ancient dogs. Well, Corn Dog was only 14, but Dodger was 19 & it was time for new carpet.

We moved everything out of the house so we could paint & then get the carpet.

I was very particular about what came back in.

If it wasn't important to us or our kids it was gone.

I do own a lot of yarn. And, fabric.

We sorted through thousands, yes, of pictures. Box after box after box after....I sorted them into 2 plastic tubs for my daughter & son, made copies when needed & mailed out packets to my nieces & nephews & kept ONE plastic box of photos here.

I was brutal on books, movies, cds, albums, etc. It was sort of hard, but I am very happy it is done & so much less stressful.
