I always had the feeling that many people go to the gym to socialize, more than anything else.

I can even work out in my pajamas very early or very late, and I like the freedom to do what I want, when I want.

@Tinkrbl44  Yes to your second paragraph.

Nope!  I went to the gym for an entire year before my son got married and it didn't change a thing.  I changed my way of eating and learned you don't need to kill yourself with long, strenuous workouts to be successful.  Now I go out the front door and walk through my subdivision.  It has a mix of flat, straight roads, curves, and steep hills.

I go to Aqua Zumba 1 day a week, water aerobics 2 days a week and Silver Sneakers once a week and sometimes I'll go to the city rec center and walk for a mile on an indoor track.

Way back when I used to go to Lucille Roberts for exercise classes.  Then I took various classes including line dancing, yoga, tai chi, etc.  We have a fitness center in our building but have used the treadmill maybe 5 times.  Ever since dislocating a bone in my foot and the pandemic, going to any sort of "class" is not appealing.  I walk maybe 30 minutes a day.  I know I should do more but just not motivated.

@Meowingkitty Aqua Zumba!! What fun!! My best friend and I used to take Aqua Aerobics for a while.  There was a lady that made baked goods for us after class.  Kinda defeats the purpose! LOL She was so sweet and made the best chocolate chip cookies and pound cake!!  Funny thing:  She drove a red corvette convertible!!  Loved her!!

I do. I have a SNAP membership picked up by my insurance.

My actual preference is to work with my horses, cleaning stalls, hauling hay etc. as it's a great workout. But that can't always happen.

On the days that I just don't want to go, I know that is the time I need to go! I have never come out of the gym saying, "gee, wish I hadn't done that." I always feel better. It becomes a necessary evil at a certain age.

When I still worked I went every day after work, it was not to socialize!  I did classes, it helped keep me motivated to work out.  Now I need a hip replacement so only doing minimal chair exercizes for now.
