One of the first things I did when I retired and moved to a new state was to join a neighborhood gym.  I met a group of fabulous ladies (in our 60s and 70s) in group fitness classes and we work out 5 days a week minimum, followed by a trip to our favorite local coffee shop.  Part of our workouts include group weight training twice a week with an actual trainer.  He works us hard!  Although my weight hasn't changed a great deal, I am definitely firmer and see muscles, especially in my arms and back.  These women have become my very dear friends and we do so much together - beach trips, bible study, church, concerts, plays, etc.  I consider working out my primary "job" in retirement, and feel so fortunate to have met my wonderful group of friends at the gym.

My husband belongs to a larger "chain" gym but prefers to walk, carry heavy boxes up and down stairs, and do significant yard work as his form of exercise.

I truly believe consistent, challenging exercise helps SO much in preventing falls/injuries and maintaining mobility later in life.
