Why is it wrong, Shorty? Rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there.......

I am not Shorty, so I hope neither of you mind that I answer this question.  It is a sign of disrespect to leave our flag in the dark (or rain, but that standard has loosened somewhat).  The "rockets red glare" shined light onto our flag, proving it was still there.

I always have a small one out year round and buy extra for these holidays.  Having one displayed reminds me of my dad and his service to our country.

Yes we fly the American flag for the 4th weekend, Memorial Day weekend, Flag Day, the list goes on.

It is not on a flag pole that people have in their yards, but it hangs from our porch on a flag hook. Thus it is not out year round (we change flags), but it is out for patriotic type holidays.

Also- we bring ours in at night and in rain. Our neighbors let them out in the dark and rain, which is wrong. (And its very dark here at night, and they dont have a light on the flags!).

Kudos for that (bolded by me)!  I see so many who leave a flag out 24/7/365, day and night and whatever the weather.  Their flags are tattered and torn.

It was NEVER ok to leave a flag out during the night or in inclement weather.     It's sad to see those poor flags.

Mrs G and Chicky, thanks for the education confirmed by my husband and something I knew a loooooooong time ago, (and forgot), our little flag is intact on our sheltered and partially lit balcony. We're particularly sentimental due to our backgrounds and experiences.

Yes. 24/7 on a 30' flag pole always lit after sundown.

My husband (retired USAF) has a flag in a glass case that was flown over the US Capitol that was given to him by his Squadron!

BTW Cherry, what made you come out of "hiding" after all this time???Smiley Surprised

Hooty, I wasn't lurking, I simply wasn't here. I just came by one day, on a whim, to say hi

American flag fies in front of my house 11 months out of the year ( I take it down at Christmastime). In fact I just noticed that it was looking dirty: washed it last week. In addition, a six foot bunting with stars on top and stripes below is hanging on the other side of the entry.
