When I first read your post title, I thought you meant the on-set kids when the Beekmans are on.
They are so sweet and well behaved. I think they like coming onto the set. They just mosey around, looking for what they get into. Just precious.

@Sooner wrote:I wonder how they get the goats to smell good enough to be inside. I can't even imagine what it takes for that! Gaaaag.
When I was a child, my parents had a pet goat, to eat the weeds, and to eat the plants from our garden after harvest (we had a huge garden. Corn, melons, various squashes, green beans, etc).
His breed was Alpine.
He was on the larger side.
Here's a picture of an Alpine goat.
My goat didn't smell.
Want to know why?
Because, as my mother would say, he was de-horned, and de-nutted.

I thought this was going to be about the goats on the set. I don't even understand that, I didn't get it when they were on ShopHQ either. Why do they have to fondle goats and have them running around on the set to sell their products? Products that are made in some big industrial factory somewhere. They could show videos of the goats and the farm.

I, too, feel sorry for these goats.
Just like dairy farms, they are artificially impregnated to continue
to produce milk...and I would question what they do with the
male goats produced from that pregnancy.
(I don't question what they do...we all know what they do
with the baby male goats)
I know baby goats are having their moment on social media with
the cute jumping around & little sweaters....
that's the picture these companies want the consumer to picture...
but this is a business...a big business...and their product (goats)
is expendable & replaceable & slaughtered for meat & hide use.
It's not 'cute'.

They must have contracts with many, many goat farms to produce enough milk to make the volume of products they offer. What they show you is so lovely, but I doubt if that is the true picture.
What happens to all the male goats that are born? They don't produce milk so they are probably sold for slaughter. It's not what you want to think but think about the fate of the goats.

@RedTop wrote:Trust me, the automatic milking process goes a lot faster than hand milking, and the goats get used to the routine. Their feeding schedule is tied to the milking routine, which helps keep them compliant!
BUT @RedTop , we all know that to produce milk they must be impregnated!!!!
AND..... what happens to the babies???
are they slautered for lamb meat, like the poor babies of cows , or what????
Do they cry for their babies ,like cows do?
The very first time i saw this company I was alarmed!!!!

@fthunt wrote:@Glittergal You and I seem to keep meeting at the barnyard gate...LOL Here's the scoop on Mama goat and her baby. Right after giving birth the Mama's milk isn't 'fit' for humans. (that's a nice way to describe it)......so baby goats-cows have Mother's milk all to themselves. Eventually babies advance to grains and hay - and we humans - can then take and enjoy the milk.
No reason to be 'sad'
The end.................
Where do you live ??? IN DREAMLAND?????
How I wish it was that simple!

@MalteseMomma Well.....let's hear YOUR speculation of a female goat's milk AFTER giving birth................
(should be interesting)

Question from a city girl. If goats aren't milked within a certain amount of time, does it become painful for the goat? I've heard that about dairy cows, but I know nothing about farm animals. All I know is those goats in their little red sweaters were so cute!

The baby male goats don't live in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.
