I ALWAYS price check....and just a tip....even an Amazon Exec admitted that Amazon does not have the lowest prices, but the consumers assume they do......
One price check I found was "My Grandma's Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake" which was $24.33 at QVC and only $14.99 at Central Market (a speciality Super Market) same ounces and everything....
@Spurt
I don't know why people assume that .... figuring they don't have to, right?
Personally, I enjoy the comparison shopping process ... my sister calls it "the thrill of the hunt". Stores have sales, promotions, drastic markdowns to free up warehouse space, etc etc. Lots of reasons to see what an item is selling for in various places.
IMO, one thing people may not be alert to is the sales and promotions out there at the last few weeks of any calendar quarter. Every publicly-held retail company has to issue their Quarterly Earnings report to Shareholders, so the last few weeks of the quarter often have a major sales push to increase sales for that quarter. It doesn't necessarily mesh with any holiday, but often it does seem that way.

One reason people think Amazon always has the lowest price is because to grow their business Amazon will beat a competitors sale price, but according to the interview with the Amazon Exec ---they will raise the price on other items to make up for it which the public doesn't realize that's why wise shoppers comparison shop.......but some consumers are a bit naive and assume just because they got a good deal on one thing, Amazon must be the lowest....Smart shoppers look around....
