The problem this time is no one knows which sites were vulnerable, or if those sites fixed the vulnerabilities, so even if you change your password and the hackers still have access they'll just get your new password. You won't have improved anything. Reportedly these hackers mostly used the data they'd collected to poach social media sites to sell advertising so the threat isn't enormous at this moment. Until we know what the vulnerability was and which sites were affected and if those sites have fixed the vulnerability, there's no real value in doing anything just yet. More than likely you'd just be wasting your time. If a site was vulnerable, it probably still is and any new password you create there would be poached, and if it wasn't vulnerable then your old passwords are still safe. This is a good time for watchful waiting. Keep an eye on bank statements, credit card statements and the like, but don't overreact just yet until more is known. There's nothing you can do just yet that will improve your situation until you know if the issues have been fixed.

Yes, I did and I change them frequently. I hope everyone does, and I hope everyone will be vigilant about internet security.

Seems lately hackers are hacking more
its quite scary!! Recently AOL had a hacking and they sent a notice to change passwords. Its not so bad with 1 maybe 2 to change but I have a lot of sites and emails to change. Such a hassle. lol September, I too sometimes try to log in with old passwords. Once you get them set its time to change them again! Booo.

I think it helps to remember there are costs and requirements for the ease and convenience of using the internet, and one of them is the need to keep up with current security/privacy issues and techniques and to apply them to our activities. It's easier to shop online instead of jumping in the car and driving to a store, for example, but it also comes with pitfalls and security risks.

I change my password on most sites every other Month no matter what. However, I admit I am having trouble remembering them so I write them down.
