Re: Do you belong to a Senior Center in your area?

No because I basically live in one...average age in the community I live (just updated 6/1 census)....84😳😳😳.  Of course, I don't know a lot of people here and there is always some activity to participate if you want.

But honestly I so enjoy the group I play cards with once a month over at another community (senior housing).  I only can wish I have such a long life of fun like these widowed ladies...no grass growing under their feet!!!

I do not want to hang around with a bunch of old people.  Prefer younger people.

Re: Do you belong to a Senior Center in your area?

My beloved late MIL, who I loved and adored beyond all points of reason was one of the sharpest, smartest and funniest women I've ever known. She must have been about 81 when I noticed she was slowing down and getting introverted and "distancing" herself from friends and family. I sat her down and showed her several Senior Centers in our area. They had bus pick- up and drop off and appeared to have great activities - many of them educational which would be right up her alley. It was the one and only time she ever got annoyed wirh me, and actually used what she considerd a curse word. Her exact response, "why the he!! would I want to spend my time with all of those OLD people?!" I ended up getting her into a library program working with kids. She loved them, they loved her! It brightened her up and she got very social again until her last day. Ten years laterbI still miss the he!! out of her.

I do not go to the senior center for lunch or activities.  My mother and in-laws never did either.  Regarding exercise classes, many are not for losing weight they are for helping with good balance and fall prevention.

Ours puts out a nice flyer describing their activities. I've never attended anything but some of the food related things sound good to me. I'd like to go to their spaghetti suppers.

Re: Do you belong to a Senior Center in your area?

I take a beginning yoga class at my local senior center.  They have several easier exercise classes.  They also have van trips to plays, restaurants, casinos, tulip festival, museums, etc.  They charge a fee for all of this. They have lunch for a small fee - I believe Catholic Services is in charge of that.  The van also picks up seniors who cannot drive and brings them to the center and takes them home.  They also take seniors grocery shopping a couple times a week.  I think 50 is considered a senior there.  I only take the yoga class but it is nice to know it is there if I ever need it.

That's so sweet and telling.  You know, I'd love to read to kids at the library.  I love the library and use to be in charge of the kids special day at the library where I once worked.  You've given me ideas. Thanks.

Thanks.  Just the socializing would be wonderful. The one we have here doesn't look too bad to me either.  I still may stop and check into it. 50 year olds could be my kids and I'd love that.
