I know that when a call comes in I look at caller ID. IF I do not recognize the name of the caller or if only the location is shown with a phone number With a area code I do not recognize I simply do not answer. IF it is really important they will leave a message. I read about these phone scams but nowadays who actually answers their phone without knowing who is calling first?

I'm with you on this. If I don't recognize it, I don't answer. It saves a lot of time and frustration!

We answer our phone whenever it rings. We still have a land line.

@KathyPet I would NEVER answer my phone before I knew who it was, call me paranoid but at one time I was receiving so many Scam calls it made my head spin, I signed up for the "Do Not Call List" but that obviously was not working, so I just stopped answering phone calls I did not recognize, they eventually fell off.
Since I am home most of the time I also shut off my answering machine, the idiots who were calling me would actually leave a message, my family & friends know how to reach me in an emergency, problem solved, the phone is pretty much silent now from scammers!

It just surprises me that so many people report getting scam phone calls. OBviously these people answered their phone without caring who is calling and then got scammed. WHy would anyone do that in this day and age of all these scams?

If it is a legit call they will leave a message. Never answer it unless a name I know pops up.

I always check. I still have my land line because our cell service is less than ideal where I live. If I'm watching TV, the name and phone number pop up on the screen. With all the annoying calls we get these days, it's essential to know whom to avoid.

We're old school...we answer the phone!

@KathyPet Maybe I worded my summary incorrectly, I have never been scammed, but the phone calls I referred to as "Scam" calls were people attempting to persuade me to give out personal information which I know is highly illegal, that is why I stopped answering my phone if I do not recognize a number.

Don't be surprised. I always check the number calling me and never answer a call where I don't recognize who it is.......and yet the scam calls keep on coming. I belive it's a machine randomly calling numbers hoping to find someone who answers it. I am on the Do Not Call list. It's useless in my case.
