I got mine at 60, my insurance paid for it, otherwise it is about $200, but probably worth every penny if you have to pay for it on your own.

When I turned 50, I polled all of my doctors/specialists and they were all in favor of the shot. My eye doctor (an eye surgeon) put it bluntly: Do you know anyone who has had shingles? I said yes. She said then you know how awful it is. Get the shot.

I will get it when I go for my physical/bloodwork in September.

I had a very mild case of chicken pox when I was a kid. I had 2. My sister was covered head to toe (eyelids, feet, everywhere). My sister had both of her kids get the chicken pox vaccine because she didn't want them to suffer what she went through with them.

If it's not covered, I would just pay for it anyway. I think it's necessary and I'd rather get the shot vs suffering through shingles.

I pay for 3D mammograms because insurance doesn't cover it yet. It's worth $50 for me not to have a call back.
