My sister just showed me a Target receipt for $20.56 and her cc statement showed a Target charge of $$26.58
Chase Credit Card has adjusted the charges. But she is trying to find out how this happens. Do you reconcile your credit card statement entries with your receipts?

Mine always match

You set your credit card to notify you when any charge is made.
I swear I can't get out of the parking lot before they are nagging me. It is a hoot!

That's really scary. I'm curious about what Target had to say...

Yes, I do, though there isn't much to check.

Admittedly, I've never checked that closely before. Sounds like it would be a good practice to start this year. Thanks for sharing this information 😊

I actually do. I wait until the charge shows online before getting rid of the receipt. I have had this happen a few times over the years although admittedly for the most part it's been when I have utilized my Visa Debit card, that I have noticed small incremental changes.

I save every receipt in an envelope till the bill comes. When they match, I throw the receipts away. I must admit, in 50 years I have never found a mistake.

Maybe it's a temporary hold amount placed on a credit card purchase. That's not an actual charge but a temporary amount shown on the card's activity until the final charge is put forward on the statement.

There has to be a different explanation - she may not have the right receipt.
Receipts and CC statements have to match. When you use your card or sign a restaurant tab, you are agreeing to the charge amount provided by the vendor. For them to charge more after the fact would be fraudulent. The only exception I'm aware of is when a tip is added. The original charge may go into pending at first and then it adjusts to the the new amount with the tip added on.
