Rain, snow, sleet, hail, and vicious dogs: yeah, I don't think I'd want that job.

No rain, snow, sleet, hail or vicious dogs in this area.

Oh, were we supposed to cover all areas in our comments? Lucky you. Many states right now DO have snow, rain, and a variety of other situations.

I was replying to your comment as it pertained to my OP.

And you know what, over the years you've become more than snotty. Buh bye.

You're right. I wrote an identical post to Tyak's so I misread RCG. My bad. Although I don't think Tyak was being snarky in her post.

Do they sort the mail for their route or is it sorted for them?

Most of it arrives already sorted in the bins. They have to be carried out to the vehicle and placed in the order of the route along with the "junk" mail that everyone receives, and the packages.

My mother was one of the last true "sorters," the ones that had to literally know what route every single address was on, and she spent hours of her own time studying all of the details.

Done well... and that's a big factor, I don't think their job is a cakewalk, but it isn't nearly the challenge it used to be. I also believe they're compensated quite nicely for it, including rather handsome benefits packages.

Well, I can't speak about the mail carrier's job being hard, but haven't you ever gotten something wrong, and sure as your breathing in and out, you just can't get it right no matter how simple it is?

Gross incompetence in the work place such as making the same mistake over and over again is not tolerated in the private sector so the question begs as to why it is allowed at the post office. Yes, everyone at some point makes an error but that's not what we're discussing here.

Re: Do mail carriers have a difficult job?

I've had an occasional mis-delivered piece of mail, but I have to say for the most part, I feel the mail carriers do a very good job. Whenever they have a package, they ring the doorbell to let me know it's there.

In my part of the country, we've had some of the most brutal weather and if I was a postal worker, I think it would be a miracle if anybody got their mail delivered. Maneuvering around on ice and snow and carrying a bag full of mail and working some days until dark is no picnic. Same goes for the summers which can be brutally hot and humid. Our postal workers have to do it all on foot, climb lots of steps. They don't drive up to outside mailboxes.

I also feel that any person who must work out in the elements has a tough job. Our streets department workers hauling in the trash on icy streets is not something I look at as a dream job. Plus they are doing double duty during the night salting roads.

lol, I couldn't post this originally because I used the word "wi cked." What's with that?

Re: Do mail carriers have a difficult job?

Actually, I think the best remedy for a carrier who constantly makes the same error over and over again in this area is to rotate their job with a carrier in a cold climate who suffers hardships while delivering the mail.....or rotate their job with a carrier with someone who lives in San Francisco. The carriers here have it extremely good and they need to be reminded of that. I'm sure that someone from another part of the country would be very grateful to work out here.
