Do dogs really go to heaven?

My poor boy had to be put down this morning, he couldn't even get up, his rear legs wouldn't even hold him anymore. He was also a diabetic dog and I gave him shots twice a day, had the hip diplacia and treated that with all the meds available and they didn't work.

10 years of pure joy, lotsa smiles, lotsa good times and too much love.

Miss you....hope you're having fun without any pain.

Too many tears today{#emotions_dlg.sad}

YES! So sorry for your loss, been there and it is not anything I would wish on anyone! Our Beau has been gone for almost 4 yrs. and we still miss him, even though we have another dog.

He is at Rainbow Bridge where all the other dogs are playing!

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

Thanks Hooty for the kind words, somehow when I was just outside in the backyard, a neighbor lady came walking over and said if you see a black cat, it's probably mine since he got out the door when he's never been outside before, in a way, that sort of eased the pain in a good way, at least my dog didn't run away and I wouldn't know what happened to him or where he is, he's in a good safe place now.

Do dogs go to heaven?
My little bully passed away, no more to breathe a sound.
I held him for the last time, then entombed him in the ground.
Day and night I wept so much, in tears I thought I'd drown.
I searched my soul for comfort, but no peace therein was found.

In great despair, I hit my knees and then began to pray.
"Father will I ever see, my dog again someday?"
I raised my eyes and saw an angel standing near a gate.
I sensed an inner peace I'd never felt before that day.

The angel smiled and said to me, "Oh man of little faith!
God sees every bird that falls; He knows your bully's fate.
I have met your little dog, I saw him pass my way.
Your precious dog is still alive; he just walked through this gate.

Paradise is lovelier than you can comprehend.
No pain or grief, no tears or fears, and life will have no end.
God gave to man His only Son, to cover all his sins.
So why would God withhold from you, your pure and loving friend?”

The angel took me by the hand and said, "Now come with me.
A glimpse of paradise I'll give, to you so you can see."
Through the gate and o'er the Rainbow Bridge we did proceed.
Through green valleys filled with flowers, rolling hills and trees.

“Wow, so this is paradise!” The place was filled with joy.
I saw my bully playing there, with dogs and cats and toys.
He also had some doggie treats, and food that he enjoyed.
He'd made a lot of new friends there, including girls and boys.

Then I saw a child come near, and hug my little mate.
She said to him, "I love you so," and kissed him on the face.
The angel said, "The child just crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.
Now she needs a little friend, to love and help her play.

God’s love for her would be enough, in that make no mistake.
But in His love, He knew full well, the child would want a mate.
This is why God called your dog unto this splendid place.
God’s entrusted her with him, ‘til you pass through the gate."

I pleaded, “May I hug them both?!” The angel answered, “No!
You’d violate a sacred site, and now it’s time to go.”
He led me back across the Bridge and through the gate to home.
He left me there with new-found hope and peace within my soul.

If someone ever asks what happens to a dog that dies,
Just give a gentle smile of joy and look them in the eye.
Take their hand and comfort them and tell them not to cry.
For dogs don’t die, they simply cross a bridge to paradise.

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

You bet they do, probably even before some people. So sorry for your loss. I lost two in October 2013. I still miss them and I am thankful for the one pup we have now. It is so hard, like losing a family member.

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

So very sorry for your loss. I believe that since dogs are fluffy bundles of unconditional love they go directly to Heaven when they leave this earth. I hope I am good enough to go where my beloved pets who have crossed the bridge are when it's my time. Bless you.

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

I have been crying all day....the pain is so great, I'm sure it will get better over time but I took him to work everyday with me and my customers will be asking for him so it's going to take a lot of time and buckets of tears to come.

Thanks for all your support, I had dogs growing up but they really weren't mine if that makes any sense, this one was glued to me and we shared a lot. If in time I do decide to get another one I'm sure they'll be more memories but you know it's just hard right now.

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

nantucket, I'm so sorry for your loss. As an adult, I've lost two miniature poodles, two cats, and my "granddogs", 4 of them. Reading the poem has brought me to tears, which seems to be a fairly regular thing with me these days, as I have a little female cat with kidney disease (for three years) and I'm getting worried about her. I try not to think about it, but I know I can't have her forever. I do also have another little female who is only 6. To me, it's as though you give birth to a baby and it just never grows up, they are almost as much my children as my real child. I know you're having a very hard time right now, but the pain will ease, and hopefully you will be able to bring another one into your home to cherish like you did this one. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

All animals return to God - and there are numerous Scriptures that show this. I'm so sorry for your loss, Nantucket, but you might benefit from some great books on the subject. Here are some of my faves:

"Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates" Gary Kurz

"Wagging Tails in Heaven" (same author)

"Who Says Animals Go to Heaven? A Collection of Prominent Christian Leaders' Beliefs in Life After Death for Animals" Niki Behrikis Shanahan

There are many others and these authors have written other books on the subjects so this is just a sampling.

May you be comforted greatly in the days ahead with the assurance that what the Lord has created, He will keep. Blessings.

Re: Do dogs really go to heaven?

Yes, they do....and I'm so sorry you're without your best friend anymore. I lost mine in January and although I'm better now (and have adopted another buddy), I do miss my little boy a lot (and I still cry sometimes).

I believe with all my heart when we arrive in Heaven all of our animal friends are there along with our departed family members.

I'll have you in my thoughts tonight. Again, I am sorry you're going through this. It's so hard.
