Re: Do You Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Apple Orchard?

When my daughter was little, we'd go to the pumpkin patch.  There is a farm about an hour away.  Very popular, especially during the fall.  Along with produce, they have ice cream, baked goods, caramel apples, etc.  Corn maze which my daughter is not interested in.  I go back and forth as to whether to go.  It's far, very crowded and pretty expensive.  I love the fall, but I live in GA nd we don't get cooled down here until almost November.  The last time we went to the farm, it was hot.  In the 90's hot and for me it ruins it a ittle.

No, but I go to citrus farms in the winter and buy oranges and lemons.Or get them free from my neighbors.

Did the pumpkin picking a couple times when my kids were little--what a mess!!! Mud everywhere---and have been in an apple orchard and picked a few apples-----none of it was much fun or glamorous---

I never have and was never taken as a child either.

My cousins would take our son every year and help him carve the pumpkin.

@haddon9   The apple crisp recipe is from a cookbook that my aunt gave me when I was 10 years old in 1957. It is The Betty Crocker Cookbook for Boys and Girls.

My children are all grown up, but they all love that recipe and I have been making it for them all their lives. The topping is butter, sugar and flour, like a crumbled sugar cookie. There is no oatmeal in this recipe. The cinnamon is in the sliced apple layer.

Warm, it is great served with vanilla ice cream and cold, we like it with whipped cream. We like it better than apple pie.

After our hot and humid summers, fall is my favorite time of year for baking.

We went every year when our kids were little, as we had many around where we live. I looked forward to it every year as it was a fun time. Now my kids take their own children every year so I don't go anymore as I feel like that is their family outing and I'm just glad they have carried on the tradition!

Sure,  but I never knew there was a dress code.Smiley Embarassed  It's a nice drive in the country and the land and the sky are SO much different than the city.

Not much into the picking anymore but the walk around the grounds is nice and I do get to pick the bag of apples from the stand MYSELF!  CIDER is my favourite apple.

Re: Do You Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Apple Orchard?

They turned the only pumpkin patch here into a wedding venue so now there's no real patch there. It has been developed with buildings and all for weddings. The old farm structures have been renovated to keep the pumpkin patch theme but that's all. Kinda sad.
