Here goes. I have noticed through the years the neighbors and community who put up the lights after decorations after Thanksgiving. It's never enough. Gets to where it looks gaudy, hideous, and ridiculous. The more lights and goo-gaws, the better. They seem to compete with one another and do their best to 'out christmas' each other. It's a one up on one another. I then get asked over to view the various 'ornament collections' and indoor efforts at decorating. If this one had 1,000 ornaments and trinkets, the other has 1,500 and so on. Granted it's their home and their money but it doesn't feel like the spirit is there. Just displaying trinket after trinket. Putting up strand after strand of bulbs and so on. I know it's not just me who notices this as I do hear the comments from others who notice the competition also. What could possibly be gained by this and what are the motives?
