I think that Kelly Ripa is well worth her purported $20 million+ contract. As the stabilizing anchor through multiple cohosts, she has done her part in maintaining lofty ratings.
She has contributed to ABC/Disney's amassing of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions in advertising revenue.
As a shareholder, I thank her for her efforts. She is probably worth much more in the round of contract negotiations. She deserves a larger slice of the ginormous advertising revenue pie.

Any teacher or nurse who completes college and is certified/licensed has no problem getting a job, but that can't be said for actors and athletes.
Anyone one can attempt to learn anything. It doesn't mean they can or will be any good at it. Teaching and Nursing are also highly developed skills and are arts. Specialized education is only the starting point. There is no guarantee that they can find a job to support themselves either.

When I graduated from college the first time, my plan was to teach high school English and Theatre. Applied everywhere and only got a handful of interviews.
Several of my classmates experienced the same thing.
Gave up on the idea of teaching and, almost three decades later, decided to go to nursing school. Applied for two jobs, got back-to-back interviews and was hired during the first interview. A lucky break, as far as I'm concerned.
Will be celebrating my 10th anniversary this year.
Disappointing that so many of the capable would-be teachers I knew pursued other careers.

I never claimed teachers and nurses had easy jobs nor that anyone could do their job, or would to.
What I meant was that jobs in teaching and nursing were, and are, plentiful. Where as jobs in acting and sports are hard to come by.

Yes, it has been upside down for YEARS.

Very glad to see that someone actually understands the business, and why people are paid what they're paid.
Thanks for posting that explanation. ![]()

I was a college instructor, not a professor, but I knew the pay structure and it was surprising how little the professors were paid. They got annual raises, but some didn't make a lot more than I did when I was teaching in public school.

Teachers and nurses. How about the people that get your social security checks to you? The ones who get you a new driver's license, stock your groceries, make toilet paper, drive a truck, raise chickens, harvest melons, put in the cable for internet, mow the lawn, run the city water plant, drive the garbage truck, sweep the street, and on and on.
Everyone who works is valuable. We all have a big part in the big picture. Workers deserve a kind word. Not many get any attention or praise for what they contribute. They get a pay check and that's ok, but it would be nice if they were appreciated.

Well stated. ITA, but I think we can stop worrying about the UPS drivers feeling appreciated. ![]()
They got a wonderful new contract and everybody is happy.
