Re: Do You Think We Have This Upside Down?

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes

Not all other employees besides the 1% of entertainers making fortunes are government or public employees: Truck Drivers, Nurses, Clerks, Waste Management Employees, Waitresses, Farmers, Painters, Plumbers, ...

And most are extremely skilled in their field.

There wouldn't be movie entertainment without the other actors, the camera people, crew members, etc. who earn a fraction of what the lead actor makes. But, 1 or 2 lead actors make a huge amount of $ compared to the rest of the cast & crew. Perhaps like CEO's and their $ balloons.

There are many talented people.

It may be the human resource aspect of supply & demand for a celebrity for people to worship, but what does it say about our values?

Are our values rightside up?

Re: Do You Think We Have This Upside Down?

Has anyone given thought to how much they contribute to the "upside down"?

Do you really think the entertainment or sports industries would pay the "superstars" what they do if they weren't still making sometimes outrageous profits?

Every time a movie is watched, a song downloaded, a concert attended, a sporting event watched or attended YOU/WE are contributing to the "upsidedown-ness" and YOU/WE are paying for those scandalous earnings.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

I think what people miss is the difference between private industry and municiple or state or non-profit entities. You won't get rich working for any of the latter because they are taxpayer or donation funded.

Although nurses make excellent money and teachers make decent money (after some longevity, but imo, they are still underpaid) and police rake in the dough in OT in many cases.

It's all relative.Though not exactly fair.

Re: Do You Think We Have This Upside Down?

As someone who believes we experience many lifetimes in different bodies and circumstances in order to learn from them (if only one life, how could one experience what it is to be handicapped if born without one, for instance), I believe we all will be rich, famous, poor, etc. and know that perspective.

I think our souls have already or will be placed into circumstances as a sort of classroom.  For what ultimate end, I'm not sure.

But the emotions of envy, jealousy and awe inspired by those in societies who knowingly or unknowingly evoke them are an opportunity for the one experiencing them to examine their heart and perhaps their actions.

I try not to judge.  Not always successful.

Empathy for all..."There but for the grace of God, go I."  Because riches and fame can be hell.

[ Edited ]

I don't know that we have it upside down but have long felt those successful in the sports and entertainment industries are grossly overcompensated, whether they're the front-line talent, or operate somehow behind the scenes. Moreoever, it seems it only gets more worse as time goes on. I would add certain media types and 'officials' to the list. The latter, whether they earn the revenue or somehow simply, um, well, come by it.

I'm not sure I'd always equate making an observation or having an opinion as envy, jealousy or judging... Just a thought... Smiley Happy

Highly paid individuals can demand this much money due to demand.  So the demand is certainly there.

Don't like it?  Boycott 'em.   No one is making us attend a ball game or a concert or a movie.

Recently read that Kelly Ripa makes 22 million for hosting "Kelly and Mark." Not only is she not often there but has most of the summer off. 😳

Re: Do You Think We Have This Upside Down?

Entertainers are paid a lot because they sell stuff. They sell their own products and they sell things for others with whom they have a contract. Entertainment is the opiate of the masses. Our lives are unfulfilling so we watch TV, sports, movies and live entertainment. We are happily distracted . Or we are addicted to social media or online gaming. Social media is intended to hook you so people can make money. It changes your brain. I wish I had never gone on Facebook. I need to start finding more meaningful ways to use what time I have left. We all need to work to make the world a better place so that it isn't destroyed in the near future.
