Do You Remember the Detective Magazines?

You know the gory violent ones, I believe one was named "True Detective". Why I brought this up is that while watching television lately, promos for new shows that reminded me of those magazines. One show's name is "Monstress's", It's about mistresses that kill.

Who read the magazines back in the day?
