This post made me wonder if they still play Cat's Cradle? That string game where you made intricate patters?
I also wonder if they still play the physical games like Red Light. etc. Hopscotch is forever. I doubt that will ever stop.

They still make the curling fish, and it has good reviews! I wish I'd known about it in "children's birthday party" days! ![]()

When I was ten years old, I won an art contest and received a $100 Toys R Us gift certificate. That was quite a bit of money back then (late 1970s). My parents took me to Toys R Us on a Saturday afternoon and I literally spent hours walking up and down every single aisle trying to decide what to spend it on. Toys R Us was so amazing!
I finally decided on this electronic device called Quiz Wiz by Coleco. It came with different themed books and cartridges that you could buy separately so the unit never became boring or obsolete. You had to enter the question number and the answer you thought was correct and the green light or red light showed if you were correct or not. It seemed so ahead of its time back then because nearly all games were not battery operated or electronic. Every subsequent birthday and Christmas I asked for some of the additional book sets for the unit. I spent so much time with that Quiz Wiz and it was really educational and fun at the same time.
Another memorable purchase was a great electronic game called "Fabulous Fred" by Mego. It had 8 or 9 built in games and was really fun back in the day. I can still remember the sound effects from each game. I see some for sale on Ebay occassionally.
The game of Perfection (where you had 60 seconds to place various plastic pieces into their corresponding shaped holes while the timer was ticking before the whole unit exploded up in your face) along with "Operation" and "Musical Chairs" were very stressful games and probably contributed to alot of anxiety in us kids from the 70s and 80s
I also loved to read Archie Comic Digests and complete the "Yes and No" Invisible Ink books that came with a special marker.
The metal Sliding 15 puzzle (by Thinkfun now) was a great portable game to take in the car on trips.
My mom threw away my red acrylic "Clackers" one day because she read they were dangerous. I was devastated.
Does anyone remember Fidgits from the 70s? It was a flat plastic disc that contained liquid colors that would change when you rubbed your finger on the underside?

@monicakm I recall " WAR" as a simple card game. Each player puts down a card and the high card wins and takes the cards. WAR was declared when each player put down th same card. they each then put 3 cards face down and one face up card. Again high face up card wins the pile. Fun simple game and depending on what cards you won in the war reversal of fortune kept you in the game.
If you tired of it you could always finish with a quick "game" of Fifty two Pick Up!![]()

We used to play the card game "Sc**w Your Neighbor" in the student lounge in college.🤪
(Also known as "Oh He**" and "Ranter Go Round".)
