@Tissyanne That's really strange that you were replying to another thread, but it showed up on this old one!
Bizzare!!
ETA: Obviously you were replying to the Amy Stran thread and that's shows as the title, but somehow it 'attached' itself to an old Polio thread.
@Lucky Charm, I have no idea how that happened. I haven't been on that thread.
@Tissyanne--what is really strange, is that the title about Amy, stays with your responses! You didn't respond to the Amy Stran thread? Did you want to respond to the Polio thread? I'm really confused!
I know this thread is about polio, and I read every one's responses. To those who knew someone who suffered, my heart goes out to you.
But reading the responses and then to see a reply pop up congratulating Amy was...just...weird.
@Lucky Charm, It's just the way the software works. When you click on the "reply" of a post within a thread, your comment will automatically use the "title" of that post you hit "reply" on. You have the option of using it, or editing it (as I did, to bring it back to the thread's title). That's why someone changing the sub-title in a thread, midstream, can throw off some of the subsequent posts' subtitles (and also makes a person's notification feed/activity profile have thread titles that might not make sense). eta: It looks like @Tissyanne posted her comment on the other thread about Amy's news, and the moderator inadvertently moved it while deleting a few offensive posts. Hope that explanation makes sense, I'm a wee bit brain-foggier than usual tonight.
@dooBdoo, I did reply on the Amy thread, but did not reply on this polio thread until just now. ??? No idea what happened.

Hi, @Tissyanne! @Susan-QVC explained it earlier on this thread when you and Lucky Charm asked. I tried to further explain -- it simply is that she was removing a few offensive posts on the Amy thread and mistakenly removed yours... and then in trying to restore it she managed to post it on this thread in error. Hope that explains -- I don't want to add any more O/T to this thread.
Here's her post, in case you missed it:
@Susan-QVC wrote:@Lucky Charm Her post was added back to the original "Congrats to Amy" thread. Mistakenly removed with inappropiate comments.

Yes I do. I was born in the late 50's and our babysitter had polio. She wore a brace on her legs. I remember one day she had just gotten my baby brother out of the crib and was walking down the stairs and fell. Scared the life out of me. Her brace put a huge split in the wooden door at the bottom of the stairs. Thankfully neither she or my baby brother were injured. I do remember getting the vacinne also. She was still our babysitter for many years after that. My parents didn't hold it against her and she was great with me and my brothers.

Yes, it's still around, just not so much in the news, that I know of. Don't recall for sure, but didn't Prs. Roosevelt have it? We did cubes, and shots.

My husband's sister got polio. She got it after taking 2 of the 3 "sugar cubes". In fact she was in the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia with other children who had the same thing happen. The rest of the family did not get polio - just her. They quaratined the famiy for a month as soon as she was diagnosed with polio.
She spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. And today she needs a cane. It is causing her quite a bit of trouble now. But she is a trooper.

I'm glad you brought it up @drizzellla about taking the live polio virus in sugar cube form and then coming down with polio.
Apparently a person can get polio from the live virus vaccine. This is one reason why pediatricians have returned to administering the dead virus through injection to avoid this from happening.
In fact certain racial groups have more of a propensity to get polio from the live vaccine, that in Africa, the medical teams there had to return to using the dead vaccine inoculations because the live vaccine was causing cases of polio to occur.
The other problem in Africa is that certain religious groups are not allowing vaccination of their children for fear of Western poisoning to their children with these inoculations. This is also why the news is reporting outbreaks of polio in certain areas of Africa. Ignorance is harmful and dangerous to these innocent children.

No, I don't remember Polio when young, but did learn after being medical certified to teach, I heard many stories from family members telling their histories of either what they knew through news, or on a personal level.
One member said he knew of a girl in high school that was stricken and lived he life in an Iron Lung until her death. Apparently she was 17 years old.
I had heard my father and mother give me information of those who died instantly.
Never thought I would be hearing of this again; I lived in a time, supposedly, when I heard medical professional say: "Eradicated".
I can not contribute or speak of other back distanced countries, nor if it remained prevalent- several years ago, though.
Yes, I do remember the stories of children lined up in schools (with permission from parents) either the vaccine injection or sugar infused Polio vaccine.
