I pay two things on line and two things are automatically deducted. I write checks for all the rest. I'm so behind the times that I don't even know what automatic bill pay through your bank is!

Since I can no longer write with my right hand, and never could with my left hand, paying my bills online through my bank accounts is a godsend. I've never had a problem.
A vender never credited a refund to my credit card at one time, and I called the credit card company and they deleted the charge. They said they would let me know if they were unsuccessful in getting the vendor to pay up, but they never called, so I assume the vendor paid up.
It's also not as though I have thousands in the bank either. The money comes in and goes out in one month.
I also check my bank accounts AND credit cards every single day.

@VanSleepy....don't feel bad. The only reason I know what I am doing is because when my son was a teenager, he taught me how to set up everything with my bank. Otherwise, I would still be mailing checks. Kids today are really great with computers and my son is no exception....

To the Pro Online Banking Bill Pay posters:
Have you initiated your qtrly estimated tax payments to the IRS using your bank's online bill pay feature?
I've checked w/ my bank & it's not mentioned.
IRS.gov doesn't say they accept...probably due to the needed attach tax form. Yes, I know I could set up payment through the IRS portal directly, but sure would be nice to have it pay out like all my other bill pays....and never have to write a check again!
Again, I suspect it's not allowed due to the needed attach tax form.
Thoughts?

I don't pay quarterly taxes but we have clients who do and they all send in checks. I know because the folllowing year, they give us copies of the checks to show the payments were made.
I suspect you are right in that since you need to attach a form, payment through the bank's bill pay isn't going to work. I'd not want to test making that payment without the form. Who knows where your payment would end up applied.

We pay estimated state tax and I can go to the state site and pay by
e-check.
I don't, that's one of the very few checks I do write and snail mail.

No one will ever have access to my banking information but me and the other co-signer on my account. I'm in charge of my checking account and always will be as long as I can.
Not a wise thing to do in my book.
And if I did, would never announce it to the world on any forum such as this.

I think with the technology these days, I would be more scared to have paper checks out there. Right on the check you have the routing number and account number. Somebody could use that information electronically to complete a transaction with the right combination of circumstances.
I keep a lot of money in my checking account so I watch it like a hawk (a chicken hawk, I guess. ha!).
Also extremely helpful for any of us who do ANY kind of transaction online is to have all the cards, debit and credit, set up to contact you in your manner of choice (I get emails because I don't text) with any transaction is done without you actually running the card into a machine yourself.
It's absolutely no hassle at all to get these emails and I feel safer in looking and deleting them when I know the charges are legit.
