It's been around for awhile and has now been included in the Urban Dictionary as a replacement for LOL (laugh out loud), so you may be seeing it in social media.

 

What you're saying when you use this acronym is "I just burst out laughing".

I am acronym ignorant!   Hard for me to follow a lot of threads with all the acronyms.  Have to stop and figure them out or look up.   Didn't know this one at all.  Oh well.
