Remember the commercial ""It's not nice to fool Mother Nature."" It was for a brand of margarine called Chiffon. You can find it on You Tube.

I feed the deer.

I run off the red bird's who peck at our large front windows.

I chase off the wood pecker who loves to go at our stucco.

I feed the squirrels.

I kill any spider within my reach..due to being bitten by a brown recluse... painful surgery followed by hospitalization.

Scorpions..oh they are so dead if I find one...been bitten quite a few times...very painful experience.

Hi there again,,,,,,,,,,,,, Croemer...............I haven't been on for several days, then I saw this Mother Nature thread, actually I had no idea what it was referring to. Ah HAA, I saw your name and the story of the Brown Recluse Spider. I have never seen one but know- oh how dangerous- their nasty little bite can be. I had a small (something) bite the upper part of my foot last month; it had taken over two weeks to heal {huge hive}...believe it was a TEENY tiny house spider. I have no use for spiders, if I can locate any, nor flies in the summertime-PERIOD! [Also, I have never seen a scorpion.] I know that would be an instant RIP for one. I have deer come to our yard and eat, along with white squirrels, all of my 10 species of birds everyday. I have a best friend who lives in a small town (another state).
He has a huge yard in a neigborhood area where he feed bunnies, squirrels, all birds and has a pond that he has had for over 20 years/ huge goldfish. There is a problem, now, with giant size hawks setting in his tall trees (not living there or nesting) that have found easy prey, so now the solution to that EZ problem is to shoot them, since they are out of their habitat. Their (home areas) would be over 70 miles away....it's either the heartbreak of feeding his yard pets which depend on him for food, BUT NOT to supply these annoying 15 ft. wing spread hawks come and dine off of his easy pickins for uninvited drop ins.

Yikes do the hawks eat his fish? They fly over my shih-tzu when she is in the yard. I always wondered if they could pick her up? I stand right near her if I see them.

I'm so sorry that no one liked my poem. When I read the topic, I remembered I had written about that very thing.

No, the hawks can't get to the goldfish. But a very interesting 'thought, though! I'll ask him tomorrow when I do my long distance calls. I was a the a huge Park Field Trip not to long ago and the speaker told the audience that most hawks will confuse a cat for a skunk, especially if it's black or gray. I have seen only one small hawk (similiar to a barn own) about 6 years ago- that- worried me for months when we had three cats {brothers & sisters} in the huge yard we maintain-NOT ME, though.
I am a good shot with a pellet G*un. Just picture me in a cowgirl outfit~~~~~~!

'sylvia', I haven't read each post here. I will go find your poem. I usually pop in and pop out reading the 1st 10, then wiggle down to the last four or do my quotes. I'll be over in your poem area~

This is exactly why you are not supposed to feed wildlife. In Arizona raptors (hawks, owls, falcons and eagles) are protected by state and federal law. I wouldn't be surprised if it was so in other states as well.

...NO NO, this is not OUT in the wild big country that we live, just our backyards that we consider an everday enjoyment. The HAWKS that I spoke about are not in their habitat. They belong out in the wild. Whatever they eat would come from smaller wildlife living there, also. I am on voting boards for the protection of the eagles, great gray wolf, et cetra, along with the and the inhumane slaughtering of any endagered wildlife (in their habitat.)
I have written about this before with much sensitivity. Understand, also- that children play in these areas.............! -----Believe that you have received the wrong thought mindset here. Goodnight.
