Do You Have a Nickname at Home or Work?

I do not have one now or have I had one since I was 12 years old. That was when I worked at a Drive-in Restaurant starting as a car hop. I was a fat and short little guy and the other guys, mostly from the Air Force Base right outside our city, are the ones that started it, I think.

Short version was "roundy" and the full version was "round steak". I don't think they gave it to me as a complementary gesture, quite the opposite. I lived with it there until I was 15 and decided to lose weight. I dropped 55lbs before I became 16, but the name lived on until I no longer worked for that drive-in or any affiliated with the ones that owned several of them in our city.

Wow, John, I don't know of any teenager who could apply themselves to the task to losing 55 lbs at the age of 15. Well done!!

hcky, I hate to tell you, but I've always read your name as "hickory nut" thinking you were from Ohio. soooo sorry, but it just stuck with me. YEA for you and the poundage at such a young age. You surely do put your mind to something and then DO IT. be very proud.

Years ago, I was an assistant manager for a large department store. When managers were paged on the loudspeakers, we were assigned by numbers. Such as "8, to 1452" - 8 being the number, 1452 being the extension to call.

Around the holidays, we were assigned holiday themed page calls - such as Rudolph, Santa, Frosty, etc. Mine was Tinsel - and funnily enough, it stuck around long after Christmas was over!

Years later, if I see any of my previous co-workers, some of them still call me Tinsel! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

My father used to call me Irene. It's not close to my real name. Not sure when it started, but I was grown. Never got to ask why.

Re: Do You Have a Nickname at Home or Work?

Yes and it is pretty embarrassing. My husband calls me Sugar Booger. I used to love the movie Reality Bites and there is a part in it where the mother calls Winona Ryder Sugar Booger and ever since my then boyfriend heard that he decided to call me that in the same southern accent. He calls me that pretty much anywhere. My daughter sometimes says it too.

My dads nickname for me was Moose because when I was a baby and teen (before he died) I was tall and very skinny. His friends would meet me after hearing him call me that name and they all expected I would be bigger. He would also call me Spider Monkey. I used to climb on everything when I was younger.

I was nicknamed early on in my 24-year job. They called me "CB" which I found out was short for "Cool Breeze," and after which I found a different kind of bra to wear.

When my little "best friend" joined the company, we became "LaVerne & Shirley," she being Shirley and me being LaVerne.

We were all young then and it was fun.

One of my brothers has always called me "Cat."
