With so many problems in the world and so much complaining (just read some of the posting on these boards) my anthem is currently Happy by Pharrel Williams.  I just go on YouTube and watch one of his Happy videos and feel much better.  It is the way I want to live my life.

I haven't had a chance to read the other posts, but will later (working on a deadline).

Short answer to the OP:   I don't have even a musical stock answer to the many trials of life.  I have a few favorites I often think about in the roundabout of life.

Sometimes it's Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" and sometimes it's the Eagle's "Take it to the Limit." Sometimes it's Roy Orbison's "Crying."

Or The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again  ("Meet the new boss/Same as the old boss")."

Another anthem I have for when my kids are being unreasonable is Hall and Oates I Can't Go for That (no can do).

Re: Do You Have An Anthem You Live By

When I was newly widowed and wasn't sure I could make it another day alone, I played this song every single night on repeat while I went to sleep.

Bring On The Rain

Another day has almost come and gone
Can't imagine what else could go wrong
Sometimes I'd like to hide away somewhere and lock the door
A single battle lost but not the war

'Cause tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain

It's almost like the hard times circle 'round
A couple drops and they all start coming down

Yeah, I might feel defeated,
And I might hang my head
I might be barely breathing, but I'm not dead

Tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain

No I'm not gonna let it get me down
I'm not gonna cry
And I'm not gonna lose any sleep tonight

'Cause tomorrow's another day
And I'm not afraid
So bring on the rain

And, yes, I did make it to another tomorrow.

Re: Do You Have An Anthem You Live By

I love this song DS recorded 30-something versions for me years ago

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

I also love the Carly Simon song

"That's the way I always heard it should be"

Re: Do You Have An Anthem You Live By

It's a song I never really liked, but as I get older I catch myself worrying about things I have absolutely no control over.  I can plan, I can have the best intentions, I can do everything right, but there's no guarantee that things will go as planned.

It makes no sense to continue to fret, but I do.  So when I fret I conjure Doris Day and sing:

Que sera, sera

Whatever will be, will be

The future's not ours to see

Que sera, sera

What will be, will be

Oxford defines que sera sera thusly:

Used to convey a fatalistic recognition that future events are out of the speaker’s control.

Yup.  Sums it up.
