You will get 90% if not 100% answers saying "no."

Believe it or not, there are quite a few posters here who have had very negative experiences with their mothers growing up.  Some are glad that they no longer are living with their nightmare and have been able to move on.  They may look back and wish they had a wonderful childhood with a kind and loving mother but it just wasn't their reality.

As for me, I loved my own mother but she was a very critical and selfish woman.  I don't look back with warm fuzzy feelings. When she passed I was sad but I also felt a sense of freedom...I could move on with my life.

Please don't assume that we all had mothers that we wish were still around.

I was blessed with a wonderful mother.  It's been 22 years but I still reach for the phone to call her.

I miss her, don't "need" her at this life point.  Feel she's looking down though on what's going on now.  Feel she was the best woman I've ever known.  Sometimes I say to myself, what would I do if this was my mom, or what or how would mom behave on this.

No, the feeling never totally goes away.  My mom has been gone over 40 years.

I had a very mixed (some ok and some pretty bad) childhood- I resolved the issues with my Mom years ago, and I am taking care of her now (she is 87 yo), but do I "need" her??  No- I love her but have not "needed" her for the last 45 yrs-
