Do You Ever Offer Unsolicited Advice

I never do but I was in the supermarket yesterday. An elderly woman left her bag opened in the top part of the cart while her back was turned to it reaching for something. I couldn't help myself. I told her it was unsafe to leave her bag unattended and she should keep it on her. She told me I was right and thanked me. I just didn't want her to be taken advantage of.

I have never done it, but think I would have done the same as you.

@Jordan2  ... I've done the same thing.  I don't mean to intrude in others business, but I will "add my 2 cents worth" when I think it may make a diffence.

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

Well before I would alerted her, I would've taken a $10 bill and helped myself to a lifesaver or two.

Kidding!

Have done this alerting many times--so far no objections.

If I see someone is confused while looking at something, I might offer a suggestion or ask if I can help.  Sometimes I just commiserate and that opens the door to conversation.

Re: Do You Ever Offer Unsolicited Advice

I live in a large city...When I am grocery shopping I always use a cross body handbag.  I have been witnessed on two seperate occasions of a  handbag being stolen.  I was only feet away from both women when it had happened.

The first time I witnessed this it was a week before Christmas two years ago...It happened in the baking isle of an upscale grocery store.  This women, only feet away from me she turned to get something behind her and turned around and screamed OMG my handbag is gone.  Someone...took her handbag in a second.  All of us who were in that isle saw nothing.  It happened that fast.

The second time I witnessed this was in a pack it yourself grocery store.  This woman was packing her bags and her shopping cart was to the side of her with her handbag in the front section.  She turned to put into the cart another bag of groceries and her handbag was gone.  That fast...No one saw a thing.

Crooks work fast...

So yes...Whenever I see someone being..."Oh so casual".  I do say something...And I have yet to have someone say..."Mind your own business".

I can't help myself. It's never been a problem.  No one has ever taken me to task for it.  I do it judiciously, though.

Re: Do You Ever Offer Unsolicited Advice

I do when needed. I still remember the times when total strangers did the same for me and I'm very grateful. I've gone out of my way to help others. My FIL was shocked when I made my DH stop the car so I could run to tell a young lady that was crossing the street with a baby carriage that her money was falling out of her back pocket. I remember going through hard times when that 'pocket money' was all I had. She may have been in a similar situation.

As long as you are not rude and preachy, I find that it's appreciated.

Re: Do You Ever Offer Unsolicited Advice

I don't offer, but I did have a "gentleman" come up to ME in the grocery to tell me that the Diet Coke that I had in my cart was going to kill me, because it was made of the same thing that car coolant (or something) is. Then he pointed his finger at me & told me that it "obviously wasn't helping me lose weight, either".

I told him that it must have also given me Alzeheimer's, because I didn't remember asking for his opinion. Then I cried on the way home. :[

Wow that was really rude. I'm sorry he hurt your feelings. The guy is an idiot and you shouldn't give him or his comments another thought.
