Hardly was any $1 scratch off left so I got two $3 ..Neat game. Matching letters in crossword puzzle.

Re: Do You Ever Buy A Lottery Ticket?

Sure...because it is fun to dream.  However I only buy 3 tickets (for my 3 grandchildren)  and only when the jackpot is over 100 million.  My dream includes (after immediate family is taken care of) becoming a philanthropist especially with St Judes, St Baldricks, and animal/wildlife shelters.

Re: Do You Ever Buy A Lottery Ticket?

I buy $20 of Powerball when the jackpot closes in on 5000 million ( bought my first in 8-10 mths yesterday).  Pre pandemic we would invest $100 biweekly in our local Indian casino ( and play for 2 hrs and then stop); we occasionally won $1000-$4000 so we more or less came out even.  For us its recreational, no expectations of becoming rich.  When we go to Vegas for a week we may play slots for two hours total.  We love the restaurants, shopping and shows.

Can't stand the disappointment, so I don't buy them!

Re: Do You Ever Buy A Lottery Ticket?

@MamaWick   I have a long mental list of chartities and organizations that would benefit if I won.

Speaking for myself, I don't need that much money to live. I would give money to my sister and her kids, give my kids enough now to be comfortable but not enough to quit work and do nothing. I would make sure they had enough when they retire, have health issues or long term care.

I don't want them to be trust fund kids at 46 and 50, even though they are sensible and level headed. Thankfully neither is a multiple thousand sq. ft.Mcmansion type.

No. My grandfather used to call it the stupidity tax. That stuck with me.

@CrazyKittyLvr2

In answer to your thread title question? NO!  Of course you know that very few times, do I answer a question with only 1 word, so!

To me that is "gambling", and as one that was "addicted" to gambling for many years, I am an informal member or Gamblers Anonymous. To me that means total abstinence.

I no longer even buy raffle tickets for any reason. Donate, yes. A raffle, no. Beside the impossible odds of winning a lottery, as I said, to me it is gambling, and I quit decades ago. And for those that think that was/is easy?

Re: Do You Ever Buy A Lottery Ticket?

I will play occasionaly, but not too often.  I am not a lucky person.  I have a friend who won the lottery though.  A group of her co-workers had a regular pool and bought tickets.  They won 40+ million about 6 years ago.  After taxes they each got about $1.2 million.  Not too bad.  She purchased a modest house, and car, gave some to family.  Now she still has enough left to help pad her retirement a bit.  She is still working (in her 50's).  I wouldn't be surprised if she retires at 60.

Re: Do You Ever Buy A Lottery Ticket?

I only buy powerball or mega millions when the jackpot is multi millions but I had not bought any tickets for months, probably since early last year. With both jackpots over 4 million I bought tickets today. I have a sister who wins the scratch off tickets and lotto all the time ! She just bought a $5 scratch off last week and won $300 !

She is so lucky at Lotto !

No...it's just not my thing.
