I do this occasionally, but only for certain items.

Once I was so happy with a purchase, I checked reviews afterwards and was I surprised! I picked up what I thought was a great shredder at Staples. We already have a large one in the basement, but I wanted one upstairs to use on a day-to-day basis. I liked the new one because, instead of the shredder sitting on a basket, it had a compartment that pulled out for emptying, much like a file drawer.

Anyway....we loved this thing so much I went online to see how everyone else liked it and everyone hated it! Seems it didn't last long. We've had ours for two years now and every time we use it, we wince lol. So far, so good though.

The interesting thing is that, had I checked reviews before the purchase, I would have passed!
