I think...I really don't care. Couldn't care less about either of these women.

Google time! Joan did have her own show on Fox in 1986, which infuriated Carson. The show did not last long. But she was the first woman, she is right about that.
That's the spin Rivers likes to put on it (although even that changes depending on which show she's on).
It wasn't that she "had her own show" that infuriated Carson, it's that he would have liked her to, at least, let him know (especially given the fact that she'd been named his regular fill-in). She didn't, and he felt snubbed.
Joan's continued to tell a number of versions of the story, and clearly has her own issues with Carson. Apparently, theirs was a very complicated relationship and Carson, himself, was a bit of an oddball.

It's strange she is so close to Jennifer Aniston.
I actually think LESS of Jennifer for having her for a BFF.
Yep--Handler is a pig and a one trick pony. Joan, love her or hate her is a ball of fire Standards would let me post what I think of Chelsea--but it starts with S and sounds like tank.

I can't imagine anyone thinking she's worse than Joan. Joan is the worst. Used to really like her. No more.
Johnny kicked her to the curb. I would too.
Read one of Chelsea's books...supposedly about her own life and multiple one night stands.
I read a chapter at Barnes & Noble - gross.

You forgot that Joan had her own late night show on Fox for a short while. It was HER show.
You are correct! That's the reason Johnny Carson launched his vendetta in Hollywood against her and why she moved back to NY, plus why her husband committed suicide. He blamed himself for the demise of the show. I saw her late night show live a couple of times in LA. I also have seen Johnny's show live. Personally, I enjoyed Joan's more. It was more current in its guests, more hip. Incidentally, she was not vulgar on that show either...the difference between then and now. I don't find Chelsea Handler entertaining at all. Her show was mainly about, body parts, drinking and drugging, her " secks life," and demeaning comments and actions using her staff as whipping boys.
Say what you will about Joan, but she at least sent Johnny a note when his son died, which is more than he did when Edgar committed suicide....and Edgar worked with Johnny for years. Basically, Johnny expected Joan to be a fill in for the rest of her life until he deemed it necessary to retire. Johnny, for all his millions, was a very insecure, small man.

Again, not true. Joan had been Carson's regular sub, yet he learned of her new show when she appeared at a Fox press conference. Then she called him, and he hung up on her.
Given the fact that she was his regular fill-in host, and that she, herself, always said she owed her career to him, it was pretty tacky to not have let him know.

I guess it depends on which version you believe. Regardless of which one is true, it seems to me that a man who was raking in millions as king of late night television, could have handled that Joan might want to strike out on her own. So what IF she called him after a press conference. He was a big boy whose ego should have been able to handle it. Was she his indentured servant?
