@MaggieMack wrote:@AliJoi5, finally! Something to disagree about! Lol. I'm a Vikings fan (yes, you can pity me now), but have to say I've been a big fan of Cam Newton's since he played at Auburn. Quite a guy, won the Heisman, won the national championship, and was drafted first in the NFL draft, first ever to do all three in the same season. And he seems like a decent human being to boot. Not to mention cute! I hope to see him in Cali, too, if Teddy B. doesn't make it.
Husband and I are also life-long Viking fans (living in Packerland). Hoping they do not end up looking too pitiful this year.

That goes back to the first Pilgrim Thanksgiving.

Why not give thanks everyday for the bounty and beauty of this wonderful country that we are blessed to live in???
For my family football and Thanksgiving are a tradition. Just because we watch football doesn't mean we aren't thankful.

THE FIRST THANKSGIVING
The Celebration
One day that fall, four settlers were sent to hunt for food for a harvest celebration. The Wampanoag heard gunshots and alerted their leader, Massasoit, who thought the English might be preparing for war. Massasoit visited the English settlement with 90 of his men to see if the war rumor was true.
Soon after their visit, the Native Americans realized that the English were only hunting for the harvest celebration. Massasoit sent some of his own men to hunt deer for the feast and for three days, the English and native men, women, and children ate together. The meal consisted of deer, corn, shellfish, and roasted meat, far from today's traditional Thanksgiving feas
They played ball games, sang, and danced. Much of what most modern Americans eat on Thanksgiving was not available in 1621.

For cryin' out loud. DH, son, SIL, brother all watched football yeterday. Life went on. No problems at all.

Football? HGTV? Hey, I'm IN!

Oh for pete's sake, it's no big deal! No one forces anyone to watch football!!

Ahhh, Thanksgiving. I'm THANKFUL to live in a country where we have the RIGHT to choose how to live our lives, and that includes watching/playing football or not!

I hear ya, OP...my mother was a football widow, & I made sure I didn't marry a man who cared more about sports than he did me, after seeing what she suffered through! My father always placed a huge importance on football, and everyone else paled in comparison. So I see your post from that perspective, where I loathe the type of person who would place less importance on their loved-ones, than on a stupid game where strangers are doing all the activity. I just don't 'get' that type of mentality at all! But. I also can appreciate that some people really seem to enjoy sports, and I think it is great if they can enjoy life like that, and wish I could give 2 figs about seeing a stranger I've never met score a touchdown, and feel that my life is somehow complete just because they did so! lol
To each his own, but I get what you are saying, and feel much the same way. ![]()
