@Tinkrbl44 wrote:I have one of the worst "looking awful" experiences ever.
Many years ago I was painting a room and needed to run to the grocery store to grab something for dinner. Hair bunched up in a clip, no makeup, old sweats. You get the picture. Probably had a smudge of paint in my hair.
Well, at the store, the handsome single young man standing in front of me at the checkout line was none other than MARK HARMON .... who was then on St Elsewhere ... or was it Chicago Hope?
Honestly, he was even better looking in real life. What a gorgeous man.
All I could recall was my mother's words .....
"Always look nice when you go out because you never know who you'll run into ... " .
@Tinkrbl44 Oh wow ! Now that's a story ! I think Mark Harmon is very good looking ! Your mother is so right , my mom used to say something similar . And doesn't it always happen when we look our worst !? Can say how many times I look good and see not one person I know , then when I run out for something quick I will see 5 People when Im looking like something my cat brought in lol !

@Silhouettes shadow wrote:So TRUE. Years ago I had all front upper teeth pulled. Partial was hurting badly as area wasn't healed so I didn't put it in and I always wear them no matter what. Vanity I admit.
A garage sale was posted so thought I'd check the physical location out before hand to see where it was. It sounded like a wooper of a sale. It was later in the eve, had my pj's on and no makeup along with NO teeth. I planned on only driving by the sale area so thought what the heck, no one will ever see me.
Sale was in the next town about 12 miles away. About 3/4 ways there a deer ran out and hit my car to where I couldn't drive it due to significant damage. I was ok, but the car wasn't and the poor deer wasn't either. I then had to call the police knowing I'd have to do an insurance claim along with having to have the poor deer removed.
Right after I called the police, it was then I realized that I didn't have my teeth in along with no makeup and was in my pj.s. OMG, I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I literally had to put my fingers over my top lip when the officer arrived in order to speak clearly so he could uderstand me because of the gap in my mouth where my teeth would normally be.
Among the many embarrassing moments I've had in my life, this one is one of my top 5 on my list.
Can't wait to see what other's have to share. I've already had some giggles with other posters.
@Silhouettes shadow you poor thing , I totally feel for you. I don't know what I would have felt like or done in this same situation. It certainly does seem to be Murphys law when these things happen. I guess we feel when we are in our cars there is no possibility of seeing anyone , your story certainly points out you never know .

That's because I look soooooo bad without and I don't want anyone to see me the way I look in my house. I won't even let my next door neighbor who I am friends with, see me with out makeup. I don't answer the door ever because of it. I know that means I'm very vain but I just look like a witch without the makeup. I even go to my cardio-therapy with a full face of makeup.
I have always had trouble with a bad complextion since my teens so that's why I am like this. I grew up in the 50's where women just didn't go out without makeup. My mother always taught me to look presentable. The only time anyone saw me all scrappy was just in the hospital with my heart surgery. I was soooo embarassed.

@luvmybeetle @I relate I was brought up the same , never go out in public without makeup and dressed appropriately. Put your best foot forward anytime you leave your house she would say. feel undressed without at least lipstick and mascara . I'm blessed with good genes so my skin is good , it's just prefer how I look with full makeup unless when having surgery, or ophthalmologist visit those types of things. And yes physically therapy .

@qualitygal wrote:I take a day now and then to let my face breathe. But to pass a mirror, I feel better if I look half way decent. Secondly, and I said it here before, if we had to go to the emergency at the hospital I want to be ready.
@qualitygal ya know funny you said that cause I too think I of an emergency and it has happened. in fact recent had to take my husband to the ER and thank goodness my hair was decent and had just done laundry so I could grab something nice quickly. I will also debate should I wash my hair today or just put it up and wait till tomorrow, then I think what if I havd to go to the ER as you never know which I've had to do many times , I want to be as you wrote "ready "! I get it !

Hi San An Gal. One would think it would be #1, but it's basically a toss up between several more.
Here's one of two other's that happened while I was water skiing. I was in my 20's which was a very long time ago, in my 50's during the car/deer incident.
A group of people were having a picnic at a local beach. Some I knew and many I didn't. Came turn for me to water ski. A very cute Firefighter that I'd never met before was driving the boat and another man was the spotter. On my 3rd lap around the lake area I lost my balance and fell in hard & quickly. When the boat came along side of me, the spotter leaned over and pulled me up to put me in the boat. As he pulled me out it was then I, along with the two of them saw that my bathing suit top was completely "off". Evidently the force of hitting the water literally blew it off my body. I had no clue it was off until he pulled me up out of the water. It was then I noticed something felt different not to mention the look on his face being one of total surprise. I was a fairly shy person so it was horrifying at the time. They quickly gave me one of their T shirts to put on and did find my top floating on the water. Needless to say it gave the group on the beach some laughs. Everyone was decent about it at the time, but I've never forgotten it. I can laugh about it now, but back then I wanted to run and hide, but there was no place to go in a situation like that. Warning: Be careful wearing a two piece bathing suit while water skiing.

Here's the clincher to my previous post about the picnic & water skiing. For some reason other went through before I was able to put it in. Also, I just turned 30 so wasn't in my 20's. Not that it matters.
It was a "get to know each other picnic" I had just started working for the Fire Department a few months earlier as their secretary. The picnic was for all family members from the Department. So, there I was, to where they got to know more of me than I ever wanted them to because of the incident. Again, they were all decent about it. However, it was really tough having to go back to work the following Monday. Thank God they were a great group of people. My boss, the Chief was awesome. They all were.
God Bless all of our Rescue workers in all fields.

Oh bless your heart! This is one reason I am always sure to be made up and dressed well when I go out anywhere.

@Silhouettes shadow No, this one was the worst.
You poor thing, you must have been mortified. I know that I would have been.

I know that means I'm very vain
NO.IT.DOES.NOT! And don't let anybody make you feel that way for caring enough to take the extra time to make yourself look more presentable to the world. When I had my heart surgery in April I had my makeup case with me and whenever I could I made sure that I at least had lips and lashes on. My complexion is nice but I can always make it look more polished🙂 My mother was like yours and she made sure to teach me the importance of looking presentable and put together. And I appreciate her for it.
