Do I need to bring a gift--piano recital invitation?

Our family has been invited to a piano recital for a 9 year old.

This girl is taking Suzuki lessons and after 4 years has passed book one so her mom is hosting a party for her at their country club.

We got an engraved invitation and it doesn't say one way or the other if you bring gifts. There will be a sundae bar and other sweet treats.

I've been to countless piano recitals over the years and have never seen gifts exchanged for this event. However, those are group parties and at best we have cookies afterwards. I don't know much about this type of piano lessons, so the importance of passing book one is lost on me.

To my knowledge no one else is performing, just the little girl.

What to do?

Just a thought: why not call up whoever sent the invitation and ask?

Are you close enough to the girl that you want to attend? I'd take a small denomination gift card with me in an envelope.

I think a 15-20 dollar gift card would be appropriate considering it is both a recital and party.

Wow, this is a tough one. While I usually think cash gifts are always appreciated, in this particular case it seems a bit crass to me. When my nieces were in recitals I always brought a bouquet of roses to the recital but there wasn't a country club reception after the performance. Do you know anyone else attending who can give you advice?

I didn't receive gifts at any of my piano recitals, but they were performed in a group environment in a church. But we did have a cake and punch reception in the church basement.

Gift cards for everything? This is crass. After all this is a piano recital, not a office gift exchange.

No gift, your attendance at the recital is gift enough. A recital is not a gift giving occasion. If you feel you must give her something, give her a small bouquet of fresh flowers.

Well....around here...it's the ""in"" thing to gift....other than money.

tacky, tacky, tacky....lol A gift card for a recital. Unbelievable. Apparently some people don't know what a recital is.
