@golding76 - I didn't recognize the song by name, but looked it up on YouTube and remember it now.   I loved the Hit Parade. I think it was on Saturday night and as a special treat, my mother would let me stay up late and watch.  I remember Dorothy Collins, Johnny Desmond and Gisele McKenzie - I'm old!!!  Nice memories.

I agree that "The Happy Wanderer" has some of that military energy to it; it makes you want to get up and go!  There is something optimistic about it.

Oh my, the memories!

We had a music teacher in elementary school, Ginny Smith. On her first day at the school  she taught the song to the whole school at assembly. We sang it in a round.

That was one of my mom's favorite songs.  One year, dad gave her a hand-carved music box with a Swiss boy on top that played it.

Seriously, though, I was born in late 1954 so this isn't ringing a bell.

However, I remember something that I think was just called 'The Wanderer'.  But I cannot remember anything else on that.  Oh darn, yup, I AM old.
