Re: Do Any of You Mature Posters Remember 'The Happy Wanderer?'

.

Does anyone know what Valeri, Valera mean?

I learned the first verse in elementary school. Don't remember hearing more verses but who knows.

@chickenbutt  Maybe you are thinking of The Wanderer by Dion DiMucci, released in 1988:

Oh well I'm the type of guy who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are well, you know that I'm around
I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same
I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name
They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around.......

Yes!  That's the one.  Thank You!

Geez, looking at those lyrics it doesn't seem like a very nice song.  But it is a catchy tune - for its time I suppose.  Smiley Happy

@chickenbutt   Thank goodness there is no M&M character.  He'd be banished.  LOL

I was born in '53, and I had not heard of that song until the 1980s.

Boston Red Sox fans sing "Sweet Caroline" at every home game before the 8th inning.

When Montreal had their baseball team (the Expos) the fans at Olympic Stadium would

sing "The Happy Wanderer" at the 7h inning stretch.  It was wonderful.

Yes, I am old enough to remember The Happy Wanderer and the one by Dion also. I am not the oldest one here though. Woman Very Happy

I remember that song but I didn't know it was called The Happy Wanderer. I always thought it was about a girl named Valerie. lol

I never knew until I read this thread that it wasn't about Valerie.

One of my best friends growing up was named Valerie, and I remember someone or other singing that song to her. When I heard the recording later on I thought, oh that's the song that guy was singing to Valerie.

Thanks for teaching me something new @golding76!

We went to Montreal to see the Expos play several times. I vividly remember the noise in the stadium from the metal bleacher-like seating. But I do not remember the song during the 7th inning stretch.

I also remember buying Maïs soufflé.
