Disney World & other FLA theme parks closing

Officials at Walt Disney World (DIS) in Orlando announced Friday afternoon that its parks will close on Saturday and remain closed through Monday.

Universal Orlando (CMCSA) announced on its website that it will close at 7 p.m. Saturday and will remain closed through Monday. Officials said they anticipate reopening on Tuesday.

SeaWorld (SEAS) in Orlando and Busch Gardens, which is in Tampa, also announced plans to shut down at 5 p.m. Saturday and remain closed through Monday.

Last October, the theme parks also closed down for Hurricane Matthew, which skirted Florida's southeast coast.

The same people who believe the parks will reopen on Monday with no damage.

Katrina destroyed 6 Flags in NOLA. They never rebuilt.

Yeh - who's going to stay around and do DW in the middle of a hurricane. Plus it puts their many employees in danger. Or Hogwarts either.

The article I read said that the Disney hotels will stay open, so there must be people staying in them. Weird, huh?

@Shoesnbags  The hotels make sense probably as shelter.  People who were booked there for vacation are probaby stuck.

Could be their one vacation for the year and for some people for many years.   For a family, a visit to Disney could cost thousands of dollars.

Many many years ago (before kids) we visited with another couple.   We didn't stay at the park but at a local hotel.   When we went back to the hotel in the late afternoon to rest & recharge before going back to the park that night, the windows were boarded up!

We left for home.  But I live in Alabama, we had our car.

Now that friend is retired and living there, she's a bit south of Tampa and hunkered down.   I think this is her first hurricane.  I doubt she'll feel the same about staying home when this is over.
