The Walt Disney Company and its owned ABC television station KTRK in Houston today jointly announced a $1 million cash commitment to the American Red Cross in support of recovery efforts for communities affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In addition, on Thursday, August 31, Disney|ABC Television Group (DATG) will host a “Day of Giving” to benefit those impacted by the hurricane. Starting in the morning with ABC local affiliates and Good Morning America, and throughout the day on ABC, Freeform, Radio Disney and across all DATG social platforms, there will be a call-to-action to donate to the American Red Cross, with those dollars going to benefit those most impacted.
“Our hearts go out to everyone in the devastating path of this historic storm,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. “It’s hard to fully appreciate the impact, in part because it isn’t over yet. But we know thousands of people have lost everything and now face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together, and we’re using our unique resources and reach to help those in need.”
Plus, eligible Disney employee donations to the American Red Cross and other qualified organizations involved in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort will be matched dollar for dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Wonderful, isn't it? So many companies, sports figures/teams and celebrities are stepping up to the plate.

Any time there's a major disaster, national or worldwide, it's good to have a variety of ways and places to donate, where people trust that their donation will be put to good use.
It's so difficult to see the news and hear the stories. If they are able, I think most people want to give something somewhere, even if it's $10, or $5 at the grocery store when checking out.

Just to be clear I know all of us are contributing to the best of our abilities.

The local NBC affiliate started their telethon this morning. Updates have been given between the ongoing coverage. Moments ago it was reported that over $1,000,000 has been raised for red cross relief. Thank you !

@tansy, I never thought you meant otherwise.
Just in general, I can't believe the judgment and one-upmanship I'm seeing in various "humanitarian" threads on the forum about what charity is worthy, unworthy, more worthy or "better than" another, or what goods and companies are better or even lesser for having donated what they have.
I'm cynical enough that I don't believe every large corp donating has no thought of publicity whatever, but in the end it matters less why a company is giving than that they are giving.

Who cares why a corp like walmart and others give to Hurricane relief or any other disaster! The fact is they do it and it is appreciated by those who need it most.

This is how we donated to the Harvey disaster, through Our local ABC affiliate. Also, my husband's company will match any employee donation up to $1,000.00 to add to the disater fund. Check to see if your work will match your donated funds.
