Please, could everyone try to find out all the information before reacting to snippets of information? This just spreads lots of misunderstanding, misinformation, and results in riled emotions.
No organization or government is perfect, mistakes will be made. They ARE really trying to help people as best as they can right now. The public is not always privy to why something is done a certain way. For instance: Not letting anyone enter Lahaina town yet, while searching for the deceased, is logical for safety & psychological reasons.
Nobody is trying to misinform people. It is,my understanding the people are still waiting for FEMA. Again, the money offered is very little if you know, anything about the economy in Hawaii. It is sad that we are so quick to be judge and jury.

The 700is all FEMA can legally give without intervention from the CONGRESS. The comments have a biased agenda.

Yes, I am very well aware of how much it cost to live in Hawai'i because I have lived here my entire life.
FEMA (almost 900 people now) has been here since August 10th. They are actively helming the Search & Recovery in Lahaina as well as assisting folks with aid. The people waiting for more assistance may be in outer areas that have lost power & water, but may still have their homes. It is slow, but they are offering help to all that apply.
When people repeat info that is not ENTIRELY true, this spreads misinformation and mistrust. I am stating a fact; I'm not saying people are doing it deliberately. Although, some may be doing so to highlight & sensationalize. The national news media has even had reports that didn't tell the whole story.
Being "judge & jury" is detrimental to everyone when one jumps to conclusions without all the facts.

Also, as I posted earlier, the $700 is an INITIAL benefit provided to people. Other more substantial aid is also being offered with application.
The $700 is suppose to replace everyday needed items to get by with. The shelters are providing many donated items like bedding, diapers, household goods, water, dry food items, etc.
Volunteer organizations, churches, and World Central Kitchen are providing hot meals to all that need food.
This Saturday, government is setting up a center for people to generate replacement ID's, Social Security cards, Passports, & mail service, among other services.

I am not sure who is to blame ,for the fire it is just so tragic, where are people to live, there are so many hotels there, wonder if they are helping.

@PinkMomi For you to speak of spreading misinformation when you have done just that earlier in this thread raises an eyebrow to say the least.

I agree that World Central Kitchen is a great group to donate to. They have been on the ground there since early days. From an email I received on the 13th (the Wednesday referred to was the 9th, the day after the fire burned Lahaina):
"WCK’s Relief Team arrived to each island on Wednesday, quickly mobilizing to the hardest-hit areas. So far the team has provided more than 16,000 meals to first responders and families in need."

There is now a moratorium on land sales on Maui, maybe the whole state. . There are always opportunitistic slimeballs who rush in to take advantage of victims of a catastrophic event. There has also been a looting problem, which I can't even imagine in this circumstance.
The American Red Cross for some reason is highly respected, but I would never donate money to them. They are poorly managed, and when a family member narrowly survived a devastating earthquake in which he lost his home and everything in it, the Red Cross provided bottled water and blankets. He was sent an invoice expecting him to repay the Red Cross for the water and blankets. I found that so appalling Inwould never donate to them.
