Refer to this post when your Medicare premiums increase, your retirement doesn't get an annual COLA, you are hit with a gasoline tax, what you owe IRS is larger than this year, there's a new surcharge for your license plates and on and on.

The free $1200 will cost a lot more. Eventually.

I don't understand why people who are still working are getting these payments.

Re: Direct Deposit Stimulus Starting to Hit Bank Accounts Now

In some ways it is poetic justice that so many are receiving $$ from the government on what would have been Tax Day, since April 15th is so close.  I will be one of the last to get one since I have never requested direct deposit. I have always wanted to see that check in my mail to go straight to savings from my own hand.  This check will be socked away as well.

Re: Direct Deposit Stimulus Starting to Hit Bank Accounts Now

Luckily DH and I don't need the money, so I'll hang on to it and if my two children don't need help, they are both working at the moment but that could change, I'll donate it to one of our local places that help the needy.  I love it when someone says to spend it but since we're suppose to "stay home" how am I suppose to spend it?  We do order take out from the local restaurants but other than that and going to the grocery store, where can I  go spend money?

Re: Direct Deposit Stimulus Starting to Hit Bank Accounts Now

Someone suggested, that people should have had to apply for this assistance, providing their reason.

Can you imagine how terribly unwieldy that could have been?

Tens of millions of people, all trying at once, to apply; what a burden that would have been on any system! Even if they made it as simple as a multiple choice, for your reason, do they just accept that, do they verify it? I can see the possibility of huge glitches, slowing down the process, for

weeks, even months, and there are people desperate for

help, now.

Just because people are still working, doesn't mean their hours haven't been cut, or they haven't incurred additional expenses, such as finding help with child care.

This payment is supposed to be a stimulus, and I don't begrudge anyone who receives it. The vast majority of people work their entire lives and certainly pay into the government.

I agree, people should not have to jump thorugh hoops.  I feel for people who are trying to get unemployment and the small business community who are trying to get their loans.  All of this should have been an easy process.

i believe they were expected Wednesday - but they are starting to hit now ahead of schedule according to news.

if you paid taxes and IRS doesn't have direct deposit info for you from 2018/2019, go to irs.gov mid-April when information can then be loaded in for direct deposit payment.  but it is not available yet, probably 4/15.

fyi.

That's what I was going to ask. How and where do we sign up info for direct deposit?
