It has not been the same since the kids took over. I always loved Dillards.

So many years of school clothes, prom dresses, Christmas decor and gifts were bought at Dillards when the kids were growing up!!   I used to love their shoe selection; I bought much of my professional work clothes there!  I haven't been to a mall in quite some time, but the last time I was in Dillards, it was almost empty!

Dillards never seemed to have much. I found it stuffy and out dated. Their stores are clean and organized but just seem like something out of the 1990s. I dont think they have kept up with the trends. Unfortunately I see that in many retail stores including Sears  JC Penny and K-Mart.  I think Target is more "on trend". Locally we just found out Payless Shoes is closing. It seems like brick and mortar stores are just not the destination they once were. I remember years ago I would go just to browse. There was a cache walking around a department store. Now I am in and out.

@croemer I don't know if you were referring to the kids taking over the malls or the stores that are geared more to much younger people than me.  The one mall I mentioned that is now closing has had numerous problems with groups of teens fighting and another formerly upscale mall outside of Pittsburgh always has a heavy police presence.  I'm no longer at the age where long drives, trying to find a parking space, and then worrying about safety is appealing.

Re: Dillards Closing

[ Edited ]

I do not go to any malls near where I live....too dangerous, car jackings, undesirables, MS-13!  Have deteriorated, many good stores closed, and the atmosphere is as I mentioned.  Have not gone to a mall in over 6-7 years!

I visited one in Ft Lauderdale before I boarded my cruise back in August, pricey but nice selection and attentive salepeople on the floor would encourage me to go back.

@bootsanne Sorry I was referring to the younger generation of Dillards...but I hear ya on  what you are saying.

Also...I was a Merchandiser for many years and while putting out merchandise I would speak with Dillards employees and after hearing their stories...they do not treat employees well at all. I felt bad for them.

I have reported teenagers smoking in the vestibule of my local Sears to the store management. Unfortunately packs of teenagers have overtaken our local mall. Large groups of them walk around rowdy. This is why I will not shop in malls on weekends or school holidays. Years ago a local mall in Albany had to institute a curfew because so many teens were ruining the shopping experience for all.
