Oh, domenica1, I am so sorry for your loss. I have a 16 1/2 yr. old dachsund and each day I worry that he will leave me. I can't bear to even think upon it. Amazingly, though, he is in good shape for his age. He does have congestive heart failure and kidneys are not the best, but, he still loves to play and barks like crazy if he knows I am leaving to run errands without taking him with me. Every evening he begins to breath heavy and I give him a pill that pulls fluid off of his heart, but, of course, it taxes his kidneys. I understand the pain you are feeling - I don't think it is something that ever goes away. Our pets are family.
