Re: Did you ever want to BE a tv character? :)

I always wanted to be Dale Arden, co-pilot with "Flash Gordon" and his main squeeze. They showed these shorts as afterschool programs when I was very little, and that is the only person on TV I ever really envied.

She and Flash, travelling through space in a rocket ship having adventures.

Since they weren't married, I don't think the censors would OK these for afterschool programming today. These were on at the same time (different network) as "Howdy Doody" but I managed to addict the rest of my family to "Flash Gordon" for the short time the old movie shorts were running. The B movie star Jean Rogers, somewhat scantily clad for an astronaut, played Dale in the ones that I saw.

I think every teenage girl growing up in late 60's wanted to be Ann Marie, aka That Girl. She had it all!!!

hmm....I wanted to be Scully, only to get to Fox Mulder - lol

As a child, the TV programs that I watched, the boys had more adventures and fun than the girls, so no, I never wanted to be a TV character as a child.

Anyone old enough to remember Penny on Sky King? I wouldn't have minded her life back then.

Tansy, Do you know the early Jimmy Buffet song "Pencil Thin Mustache"? It's one of my favorites.

Evidently he had a crush on Penny when he was a kid:

"I remember bein' buck-toothed and skinny/Writing fan letters to Sky's niece Penny..."

Alexis on Dynasty. Such a fun, over the top, character. Loved her wardrobe.

I can remember listening to Sky King on my radio. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} And The Whisler...under my blankets, real low...because I was supposed to have the radio off and be asleep by that time.

Oh, fun! Thanks, burnsite. I didn't know that. I'm sure we have that song here and I just never caught the lyrics. ETA-- Yeah, I do remember the two-tone Ricky Ricardo jacket and an autographed picture of Andy DivineSmiley Happy
