Re: Did the US East Coast Get Snow?

@Lilysmom1  I know it's a pain to drive in and shovel your way out. It's so beautiful since in NC we rarely see that.

Re: Did the US East Coast Get Snow?

I'm in RI and we have not had much at all this year.  The sun is shining but it's chilly this morning. (26F)   Our last storm was 8 inches and it was followed by a rain storm a few days later so it went away quickly.  Supposed to get warmer as the week goes on.  I'd say you will be fine for travel by Tuesday as long as your roads allow.  Enjoy Maine Smiley Happy

Re: Did the US East Coast Get Snow?

@gardenman @Shanus @LindaSal @catter70 @Puggywuggy et al we haven't had snow like this in 20 years.

In the Fall of 2003 Nova Scotia had an historical storm.  It was called Hurricane Juan.  Until then, hurricanes here were very rare in Atlantic Canada.  That storm destroyed 80,000 trees in one of our city parks.  Power was out for two weeks.  Century trees were uprooted taking sidewalks and roads with them all over the city.

Following Hurricane Juan, In Feb of 2004, we had a terrible nor'easter that dumped 100-150 cm of snow on the Province.  People could not use regular snow removal equipment and it was a regular sight to see backhoes used in snow removal.  The Province declared a state of emergency.  This storm became known as White Juan because it happened so soon after Hurricane Juan.

The storm we are in the middle of is rivalling White Juan.  It is the worst in Cape Breton where they have declared a state of emergency.  We got around 80 cm of snow but they are in the 100-150 cm range.

The storm is as @gardenman describes.  It is trapped off our coast and has been since Friday.  The snowfall is high but the drifts are worse.  The good news is we still have power.  All schools are closed as cleanup continues...
