Re: Did anyone go to see Godzilla yet?

Sounds like a fun movie !

I'll have to wait for it to come onto On Demand.

BRILLIANT! I took my kids who are 11 and 9 years old. They loved it! It blows away that horrid one from 1998 with Ferris Buehler that made Godzilla look like a giant iguana. That one was a stinker. This is fantastic! I hope they make a sequel.

Depends on how young under 10.... I don't think I would take a child under 7, they just wouldn't understand it. It is a very intense movie with some interesting plot lines. Without giving away too much, there are scary monsters in it, and lots of destruction, so I guess that qualifies as violence. It's definitely an adult Godzilla, not a kid version.

Rats! Foiled again! It's not playing at my neighborhood cheapo theater so I must wait for it to get stale. I suppose I could go see Need For Speed for $1.75... (According to Better-half, I'd be overpaying. Ouch!)

I generally like sci-fi movies, but this doesn't interest me--too much reliance on CGI. Also, as one of the posters noted, the big guy doesn't appear unti well into the film.

Hi JJsMom - it all depends on the maturity level of the child and what they have been exposed to in the past with monster movies.

this isn't a friendly movie and it is serious in its tone. If they love the original 1954 Godzilla movie & understand it, they might like this one.

however, if you are looking for campy humor, this is not the movie for them. I would liken this to Jurassic Park - people did die in that movie and it was loud & scary.

Re: Did anyone go to see Godzilla yet?

I haven't seen the new movie, but this thread made me think about something a friend in Japan has said to me about these flicks. He pointed out to me that in the late 1990s, the Godzilla movie of that era showed the destruction of a Kyoto railway hotel I like to stay in.

His point: "Godzilla, he is very tasteful, religious. He is a monster but respects Japanese values. Never destroys a temple, never a garden. Just railway hotels, Western style office buildings."

This is really true of the original film, which I love and have watched many times. It's all office buildings and Western architecture.

In 'zilla 2014, it or one of the other monsters (there are three) destroys parts of Las Vegas. I guess that's what some find so amusing. {#emotions_dlg.lol} Actually, it's been done before in Mars Attacks (1996).
