I wore black patent or white patent, depending on the season. We used Vaseline to polish them, and toothpaste to take off scratches!

Always.  I got a new pair every year right before Christmas and a new white pair before Easter.

We always got dressed up for church.

I only had one pair of school shoes and one pair of patent shoes at a time. During the summer months, I got a pair of new sneakers.

I wore corrective shoes until I was around 7 or 8.  Anything was better than the boy shoes I had to wear....oxblood leather oxfords.  To this day, I refuse to wear any type of tie shoes....including sneakers.

I was just thinking about how slippery those shoes were ...my Mom would tell me to go outside with my new shoes on and scuff the bottoms of the shoes so I wouldn't slip and fall in church.

I fell down our carpeted steps in the house numerous times with my slippery new shoes on.

I am going to tell my story about Black Patent Leather

shoes ....

I had to wear brownish red buster borwns .. there was a

girl in my grade at school that got to wear Black Patents

everyday ... my mother said they would ruin my feet ..

I was so envious ... I'm 77 and this was 4th grade and

I still think about that ...
