Did You teach your children to cook?

As my son and daughter got into their late teens and early 20's they started getting interested in learning how to cook and wanted to learn my different casserole dishes so I taught them some of their favorites like Corn casserole, sweet potato casserole, bannana pudding, green bean casserole. homemade mac and cheese casserole and a few others. My 52 yr old son loves to cook and usually cooks the entire meals for his family on the holidays including Christmas.  I've gone to his home and had wonderful Christmas dinners. His wife loves his cooking. I encouraged them to learn cooking so they wouldn't have to buy fast food all the time when they started living on their own. My daughter is a great cook as well. I know I will get a good meal when I go to either home for dinner. What's your take on teaching your children to cook before leaving out on their own or were they interested at all ? If you don't have children do you think it's a good idea for them to learn to cook at all ?

It's a great idea to teach children to cook. Otherwise they will be dependent on take-out and other quick unhealthy meals. Much healthier and tastier to make it yourself.

"The Kitchen" was my mother's personal "property".    No one was allowed to touch anything.    Even my dad needed "permission" to get a can of pop out of the fridge...and SHE got it for him.

I learned to cook by watching Julia Child on TV.

Once in a while my adult son will ask me for how many minutes he should put something in the microwave.  That's as far as it goes regarding teaching around here.

I taught my children and grandchildren basic things so they could eat something.

My grandson took a cooking class in high school his senior year and loved it.  He was making all sorts of interesting dishes there.

His first year of college, he lived with 3 other guys in an apartment close to campus and was the chef.  He made  meals for himself and others thus avoiding cafeteria offerings.

I can't imagine why anyone would not teach a child perhaps the most basic skill to survival and good health.

I was cooking meals for my family during summers at 13 and I have enjoyed a lifetime of cooking and learning.  I can cook anything!  I can bone and butterfly a leg of lamb, or make puff pastery.

Now retired my husband does almost all the cooking. He has always it, but now enjoys cooking and planning the majority of meals.  I'm enjoying it too!

I don't have kids and I never learned to cook as a child. My mom was of the opinion that I wouldn't do it right anyway, and I really wasn't interested. I'm still not.

My mom worked out of town , so I started making supper so it would be ready when she go home. I made some of her recipes but I did a lot of experimenting and no one complained. This gave me confidence and I really enjoyed being able to put a good meal on the table.

I raised two Step daughters full time for 10 years and taught them to cook and bake. The oldest one's first husband had a Mother that cooked everything  convience out of a box. He loved her homemade pancakes, muffins, biscuits etc.she would make for him. My first major was Home Economics so probably was a help in teaching .

My husband and I chose to not have children, but our mothers taught both of us to cook.
