Did You Ever Go Full-On Groupie?

I was just remembering a time in college when The Beach Boys were playing. Our group of girls sat out in front of the venue half the day and were in the front row. We were so rowdy, but the band seemed to like it. Mike Love handed me his guitar pick! We ended up following a car we thought was their car over hill and dale! Turned out it wasn't! Hahaha! The only other time was when a friend and I tried to crash an Isaac Asimov Commencement speech. We ended up jumping up and down outside trying to look in the windows. What geeks!

@PA Mom-mom  looking back now, are you saying "what was I thinking?" lol Can you believe you did that?

Re: Did You Ever Go Full-On Groupie?

My friend and I staked out Elvis Presley's hotel room. It was in one of those hollow hotels that we could see the floors from top to bottom. We spent the afternoon there standing along the rail one floor below his. He never came out of his room. Some of the band members talked to us from the floor above. One promised my friend a scarf at the performance that night when we told him we had front row seats.

Low and behold, during the concert the guy looked right at her. He said something to Elvis, and he walked over to her to hand her a scarf. Some misguided girl tried to take it, but my friend prevailed. Elvis did that little lip curl and never missed a beat of that song. I thought my friend was going to hyperventilate. She was the huge fan. I was her trusty sidekick.

After the performance we drove to the airport to see if he was there. The Lisa Marie was still sitting on the tarmac. We waited a while, but gave up and went home.

@Sage04  Yes, looking back, I can believe I (we) did that. We were definitely NOT thinking! We were all very good students, and sometimes we just had to let go.

@On It  That's a great story! Getting an Elvis scarf would have been such a triumph!

Love the Elvis story!     I remember seeing the 'Lisa Marie' when I visited Graceland.  We got to walk onto it and walk through the plane.  That was pretty cool.

Oh wait - I was at Graceland once but maybe the Lisa Marie plane was at an Elvis museum, perhaps in Las Vegas.

Sorry about that.  Smiley Happy

She was beyond ecstatic. That performance was the first time I ever felt charisma. Elvis was like a magnet. It was an unsettling feeling that I still remember vividly all these years later.

Gotta agree. I guess nobody has ever been fascinating to that degree.

I partied with Duran Duran once and got a picture of John Taylor. I saw them again in 2011 and he remembered me from back then.
