Did You Attend Summer Camp?

I never attended Summer camp when I was a child. It wasn't something I would have wanted to do.

If you attended, did you enjoy it? Anything memorable happen while you were there?

Nope, I never even attended kindergarten.

I don't think there were summer camps for girls in my area when I was younger. I did spend a weekend camping with the girl scouts a few times.

All three of my children attended day camp when they were kids for two weeks. They went and came home by bus everyday. They enjoyed it and looked forward to it every year.

They were allowed to stay overnight on the last day if they wanted to. Two of them did, one came home to sleep.

Yes from the time I was 5 until 12 and then one month at Sleepaway camp. I loved camp.

No, I never attended summer camp as a child. However, when I was 21, I was a counselor at a camp in Minoqua, Wisconsin for 8 weeks. My campers, from several states, stayed for the entire eight weeks. Except for learning to ride horses, I did not like the camp experience as an adult. I probably would not have liked the experience as a child either. lol

I went to day camp when I was 9 & 10, and it was fun- have many good memories! Lots of sports that I loved, and they had a covered area for when it rained with a "canteen"- read CANDY COUNTER! Oh my, I bought my share with no parents around!!
Then when I was 11, I went for 1 month to sleep-away camp. That was awesome! My home life pretty much stunk, for lots of reasons, I was absolutely miserably unhappy, so camp freed me to see that life would be better away from my home, when I grew up. It gave me hope! The schools in my area sent the sixth graders to camp. If memory serves, it was one week shortly before the end of the term.

It was a camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California.

When I was in high school, I volunteered to be a camp counselor for one week at the same camp.

I just wonder if they still have that program.

Either way, I totally enjoyed the experience. I got to see poison oak up close and personal.

I avoided it. Others did not.

I spent my high school summers in classes. Summer Theatre Workshop and Driver's Ed.

I attended a summer church camp once when I was in grade school. I remember sleeping in a cabin with several other girls. We had some sport competitions, an art class and other things I dont remember. I do remember I enjoyed it.

Yes, I went to a week long Girl Scout camp somewhere in. the Smokey Mountains two summers. We slept 4 to a unit in big tents built on platforms. Beautiful place with a big lake for swimming and water activities.

Same! 6th grade in Oregon, camp late spring in the mountains at a lake. I think the schools still do it, not sure if it resumed since Covid.

Oh my gosh. Some hilarious memories including the girls and boys pranking each others’ cabins. Songs at night around the campfire. Nature hikes. I learned how to identify all kinds of plant leaves.

Also came home with a massive infection from a mosquito bite (I’m allergic). Complete with streaks going up my arm. 👀 I hid it because I didn’t want to get sent home. 🥸
