Friends and I were saying that from the trailer alone the movie looked stupid and not one we'd spend money to see. Also said even though we live in a country that one has free speech and the ability to make such a movie, why would one do so? And some sort of response from N. Korea, gee, who didn't see that coming?

I haven't followed this story so my facts are limited but maybe the people that made the movie knew it was really bad and wasn't going to make any money -this gets people more interested in wanting to see it. ""Forbidding"" something usually makes it more appealing.

True, but now NOBODY is going to see it.

Sony isn't dropping the film.

Wouldn't be surprised. It's amazing what is available on the net.

If someone did that about the US, you may be certain it would cause a stink too.
I had no plans on going to see it.......
It was not going to win an academy award in the first place. Typical Seth Rogan stuff. However, if they HAD to make a movie about a "hilarious" assassination plot, why not choose a fictional kingdom with a fictional dictator? What did they THINK was going to happen when Kim Jong Un got wind of it? It's not as if he is the most stable leader, and now they have dragged the US government into this can of worms.

Yes.
Although, I don't know if there is a "right thing" or "wrong thing" here. Sony was in a predicament. They had to weigh all of the possibilities of what could happen.

I did not see clips of the movie but I hear its a comedy.
I am like you OP. On one hand I see Sonys view as they don't want anyone to get hurt (there are a lot of warped people out there and who knows if someone from here would do it just to do it). I highly doubt someone would come from North Korea to do it, it would be somebody who read the story and gets a sick idea instead.
On the other hand, I don't believe (at all) that we should let terrorists keep us from doing anything we love.
